Bob Myers stepped down from his role as President of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors in late May after failing to agree to terms on an extension. Myers won four rings as the ringleader in Golden State, becoming well-known for his ability to manage egos and connect with stars like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
While Myers' exodus felt inevitable, it still marked the end of an important chapter in Warriors — and NBA — history. Myers was a prominent player agent before landing the Warriors gig, but he will be forever remembered as one of the most successful front office managers ever. Only time will tell if he ever gets another NBA job. He will have his pick of interested suitors if he ever desires it.
For now, however, Myers appears to have his sights set on different ventures. According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Myers is nearing a deal with ESPN to join the 'NBA Countdown' crew on television. Myers would presumably become a central figure in ESPN's NBA coverage.
It's an interesting pivot for one of the best managerial minds in the game. The word "prime" doesn't really apply to management, but Myers is 48 years old and fresh off the most impressive recent GM spell in modern history. ESPN is undoubtedly offering a sizable wad of cash, but any number of teams would be happy to pay Myers top dollar. The motivations behind this particular pivot are unknown, but Myers is certainly a respectable voice worth listening to once he's on the air next season.
NBA Rumors: Kristaps Porzingis injury casts doubt over FIBA World Cup participation
Kristaps Porzingis' participation in the upcoming FIBA World Cup is in doubt after the Boston Celtics star injured his foot, according to German reporter Rupert Fabig. While the specifics of the injury are unknown, it's definitely a source of concern for Boston fans.
Porzingis is fresh off the best individual season of his career in the NBA, during which he averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks on 62.7 TS%. Boston sent out a considerable haul, centered on former DPOY winner Marcus Smart, to acquire Porzingis in June. He's expected to start at center and anchor the Celtics' championship-aspirant defense.
Latvia would undoubtedly miss Porzingis' contributions in the FIBA World Cup. Porzingis, Latvia, and the Celtics are expected to reach a joint decision at the last possible moment, with the 28-year-old likely determined to compete for his home country if at all possible.
The Celtics, meanwhile, should and will approach the situation with the utmost caution. Last season marked the first time Porzingis played north of 60 regular season games since 2016-17, his second year in the league. Injuries have been a constant plague for the 7-foot-3 Porzingis, and Boston will want to make sure he's fully equipped mentally and physically for a deep postseason run. That starts with smart injury management and preventative measures in the summer. If Porzingis isn't 100 percent cleared, we probably won't see him on the FIBA stage.
NBA Rumors: LeBron James' son transfers out of Sierra Canyon High School
LeBron James' son, Bryce, will transfer out of Sierra Canyon High School and join Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, according to the youngest James' Instagram. The 16-year-old junior will join Notre Dame's state championship defense alongside Houston Cougars commit Mercy Miller.
Bryce James spent last season playing with his older brother, Bronny, at Sierra Canyon. He was initially expected to transfer to Campbell Hall for his junior year, where he would've played alongside Chris Paul Jr. Alas, it was not meant to be. James' basketball and educational home for next season resides at Notre Dame.
LeBron's son is currently a three-star recruit in the 2025 high school class at 247 Sports. From 247 scouting director Adam Finkelstein:
"He may not be the dynamic athlete or playmaker some expect at first, but he is a fundamentally sound player with solid perimeter size and a good early skill-set. He possesses clear shooting potential with naturally soft touch, compact release, and the ability to make both threes and pull-ups. His left hand is advanced for his age and he also has a good early understanding of the game. Physically, he has a solid build for an underclassman, but is still just growing into his body a bit and so far from a finished product."
There's still ample time for James to improve his stock ahead of a college commitment. He has offers from USC, where his brother Bronny currently resides, and Duquesne. Bryce is listed at 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds. He will spend plenty of time in front of national audiences next season with a chance to compete at the highest level of California high school basketball.
