Liverpool have released a statement condemning the racial abuse received by Destiny Udogie on social media after Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win at the weekend.

Udogie was a part of the Tottenham side who beat Liverpool in dramatic and controversial fashion on Saturday evening, with Spurs running out 2-1 winners thanks to a 96th-minute own goal from Joel Matip.

Following the huge win for his side, the young full-back posted celebratory images on Instagram and received a huge amount of racial abuse in the comments section underneath the post.

Liverpool have now released a statement condemning the alarming abuse received by the Tottenham player, confirming they will work with authorities to identify those involved.

It reads: "Liverpool FC condemns all forms of racism and discrimination and will work with the relevant authorities and social media platforms to help identify those responsible and apply the strongest possible consequences."

Tottenham released a statement earlier on Monday also confirming they would help identify the culprits: "We are disgusted at the racist messages directed towards Destiny Udogie on social media following Saturday's game against Liverpool.

"We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify.

"We stand with you, Destiny."

The statement from Liverpool is one of the many the club have published in the aftermath of an incredibly controversial game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On Sunday the Reds insisted 'sporting integrity had been undermined' by the astonishing mismanagement of the VAR system that led to Luis Diaz's goal being ruled out for offside in the first half of the game - a goal that would've given Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

Liverpool have also chosen to contest the red card dished out to Curtis Jones - one of two the Reds received on the day - following a hefty and almost leg-breaking challenge on Tottenham's star midfielder Yves Bissouma.
