LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renowned actor Kevin Costner took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm for his upcoming movie, 'Horizon,' which he is both starring in and directing alongside Robert Legato. Costner, who recently made headlines with his split from wife Christine Baumgartner and departure from the series 'Yellowstone' expressed his excitement about the film's production, comparing it to his acclaimed motion picture 'Dances With Wolves' from 1990.

Sharing a photo of a director's chair featuring the movie's title, Costner stated, "We're deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven't felt this way about a movie since we were making Dances With Wolves." He wrapped up by saying, "Can't wait to share it with all of you."

Kevin Costner's upcoming movie 'Horizon'

'Horizon' features a stellar ensemble cast and revolves around the settlement of the American West during the expansion before and after the Civil War. Notable names joining Costner in this Western drama include Michael Rooker, Sienna Miller, Kathleen Quinlan, Will Patton, Giovanni Ribisi, Luke Wilson, Danny Huston, and Sam Worthington. This project marks Costner's return to directing after two decades since his last directorial effort, the 2003 western drama 'Open Range.' With over 170 characters incorporated into the series, Collider reported that the project will be turned into movies with special TV edits.

Costner plans to release 'Horizon' as a series of four different movies, with each installment coming out approximately every three months, as he revealed in an interview with Variety. The project was first announced in January 2022, with Costner also taking on the roles of producer and financier through his production company, Territory Pictures. Speaking about the concept behind 'Horizon,' Costner emphasized its honest portrayal of America's westward expansion, highlighting the challenges, interactions with indigenous peoples, and the consequences of life and death decisions faced by the characters.

'A journey in an honest and forthcoming way'

"America's expansion into the west was one that was fraught with peril and intrigue from the natural elements, to the interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it," Costner told Deadline. He added that Horizon, "tells the story of that journey in an honest and forthcoming way, highlighting the points of view and consequences of the characters life and death decisions." Costner's 'Dances With Wolves' remains a significant milestone in his career, earning him the Best Director award and winning Best Picture at the 1991 Academy Awards, among other accolades.
