AUSTIN, TEXAS: What is superior: boxing or UFC? This is a long-standing question that fans on both sides want answered. Joe Rogan and Sean Strickland recently engaged in a dialogue on the superiority of UFC over boxing.
The podcast presenter stated that the UFC is superior to boxing. However, he went on to discuss specific areas where the UFC surpassed professional boxing. Joe Rogan, a martial artist himself, was seen engaging in a conversation with Sean Strickland, a UFC Middleweight competitor, about the UFC's reputation and the aspects in which it excels compared to boxing.
When addressing the benefits of being an MMA fighter and how the UFC can solve them, Strickland stated that the compensation element in the UFC needs to be adjusted. “If it was a high-school thing and you could go get a D1 Scholarship and you can leave the ghettos, by being an MMA fighter? 100%. 100% dude. F**k yeah, man!” Strickland began by discussing how MMA can change people's life.
"So, how do we fix that?" wondered Rogan, pondering what improvements the UFC could make in this area. “Like money in the UFC… I don’t know. You know more about that than me," responded Strickland, confirming the sentiments expressed by other fighters regarding the promotion and their financial situations.
Rogan said, "Well, there’s money in the UFC for guys like you. But that’s… also in boxing. The UFC’s better than boxing when it comes to how undercard fighters get paid."
Why did Joe Rogan choose UFC over boxing?
UFC fighters and professional boxers have been at odds for quite some time, striving to prove that one discipline is superior to the other. UFC and boxing fans watched the fight between former UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in an attempt to find an explanation.
Nate Diaz is now preparing to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is rumored to be Tyson Fury's next opponent. WBC champion Tyson Fury and UFC Heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently had a verbal spat over UFC commentator Rogan.
While the debate over the superiority of the two combat sports continues, Rogan has sided with the UFC as the winner, citing the higher pay scale for preliminary fighters in the organization compared to boxing. According to projections for 2022, the average wage for UFC fighters is $146,673, whereas boxers earn between $22,000 and $51,370 on average. It is worth noting that boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr are among the highest-paid athletes in the world. However, in the case of preliminary fight cards involving amateurs, the UFC generally offers higher payouts. Therefore, what Rogan said may hold true.
