‘It broke me': Tom Holland 'taking a year off' after grueling time shooting 'The Crowded Room'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Holland recently opened up about the hard part of being an actor. The ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ star sat down with ‘Extra’ for an interview and explained why he needed to leave acting for some time before coming back to the screens.

The 27-year-old actor reportedly shared while referring to 'The Crowded Room', “I love the learning curve of becoming a producer. I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve always sort of lived by this idea that hard work is good work. I really enjoyed it, but then again, the show did break me. There did come a time when I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break.’”

‘Just been trying to be a regular bloke’

“I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on the beach. And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was,” said Holland, who will be seen as Danny Sullivan in the psychological thriller drama, airing on June 9 on Apple TV+. His fictional character is reportedly involved in a 1979 shooting in New York City.

‘The Impossible’ actor also went on to share how he spends his free time. He said, “I've done a little bit of traveling, I had an amazing time. I've been seeing my family. I've been seeing my friends. I've been playing golf. I've been, you know, going to the garden center and buying plants and doing my best to keep them alive and all that sort of stuff,” before adding, “I've just been trying to be, you know, a regular bloke from Kingston and just relax. I don't think [a new 'Spiderman'] will come any time soon, but there is definitely a possibility!”

‘It really beat me up’

This comes as earlier Holland revealed to Entertainment Weekly, “I've spent so long playing Nathan Drake and playing Spider-Man, who are characters that you can depend on, people you feel safe around, and, ultimately, people that feel really capable. I really enjoyed playing Danny in those earlier episodes where I was able to lean into my more vulnerable side.”

He described, “I'm no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing. But the mental aspect, it really beat me up and it took a long time for me to recover afterward, to sort of get back to reality. I was seeing myself in him but in my personal life.” He added, “I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, 'I'm going to shave my head. I need to shave my head because I need to get rid of this character.' And, obviously, we were mid-shooting, so I decided not to… It was unlike anything I've ever experienced before.”

At the time, Holland also expressed his gratitude toward his co-star Sasha Lane. He mentioned, “She was so helpful for me because there were moments on set where I really was struggling to understand Danny's reasoning or Danny's actions. She would take me aside and be really open and willing to share some of her experiences that were so helpful at the moment.”
