NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The prime suspect in the infamous Gilgo Beach murder case reportedly went to the same school as Alec Baldwin. Rex Heuermann, 59, was arrested early Friday, July 14, in connection to the killings of the first four of the 11 murders along the Oyster Bay area between 2010 and 2011. The suspect is a twice-married New York City architect and was described by the locals as a 'family man' living in a 'messy house' in Massapequa Park which is a 25-minute drive from the murder site.
Another six women and a toddler were found dead in the following months. The investigation is currently ongoing and the authorities are trying to find out if he has any connections to the murders. The Long Island native lived in a dilapidated residence in Massapequa which costs around $195,000, since the 1980s.
Is Rex Heuermann friends with Alec Baldwin?
According to Daily Mail, Heuermann and his brother Craig attended Berner High, the same school as Baldwin and graduated five years after the 'Beetlejuice' actor in 1981. This was further proved by the yearbook photographs which showed the accused being a part of the school drama club.
Alec Baldwin's brother, Billy, posted a tweet saying that he was a classmate of Heuermann. "Woke up this morning to learn that the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect was my high school classmate Rex Heuermann...", he said. "Married, two kids, architect. 'Average guy… quiet, family man.' Mind-boggling… Massapequa is in shock."
An insight into Heuermann's life
Heuermann later studied architectural technology at the New York Institute of Technology before starting his venture in the business at Greer Construction Corp in Freeport, New York. In 1990, he tied the knot with Elizabeth Ryan but they are now divorced. He now has an Icelandic wife, a stepson, and a daughter, Victoria, 26, from his second marriage. Victoria works with her father at the architecture firm, RH Consultants & Associates, where he was apprehended.
According to an online biography, Heuermann founded the company in 1994 and its clients included American Airlines and 'other major tenants' at the JFK International Airport. He was a member of a New York City-based networking group known as The Dream Team.
Alec Baldwin was also accused of murder
The Emmy Award winner was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter over killing Halyna Hutchins while filming 'Rust' in New Mexico. The cinematographer was killed by a live bullet fired from a prop gun that was being used by Baldwin. The actor has always maintained his innocence, repeatedly claiming that he was informed by crew members that the gun was not loaded and has also insisted he did not pull the trigger. Prosecutors later dropped criminal charges against the actor in April this year.
