WOODLAND, CALIFORNIA: A former student of the University of California, Davis, Carlos Dominguez, accused of killing two and trying to take the life of a third person, marked his presence in a California court on Monday, July 24, seemingly not looking normal. Dominguez allegedly went on a murder spree earlier this year by fatally stabbing 50-year-old David Breaux and 20-year-old UC Davis senior Karim Abou Najm, as well as tried to murder a 64-year-old woman.
At Yolo Superior Court in Woodland, the 21-year-old appeared donning a green safety vest, with his overgrown long black hair hiding most of his face. It has been claimed that he failed to take a shower for the last three months and has apparently also gone on a hunger strike. Dominguez’s lawyer, Yolo County public defender Dan Hutchinson, has insisted that his client is not mentally stable, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Hutchinson told the court that he plans to soon present the proof to confirm Dominguez's schizophrenia diagnosis, which might make him unfit to stand trial. "He sits there each day in his empty cell, unclothed, unmedicated, untreated for his mental illness. He has not showered a single time, and if he ever has brushed his teeth nobody appears to have seen that," the attorney claimed. However, prosecutors have rejected Hutchinson’s theory and stated that the alleged murderer is "toying with the system." This comes after a court appearance in June when Dominguez reportedly said, "I want to apologize, and I want to say I’m guilty and forgive me."

Breaux was reportedly the first victim of Dominguez. He was attacked on April 27 on a bench in Central Park. Davis Mayor Will Arnold said after his death, "The death of David Breaux is utterly and completely devastating. Many of us knew David. We talked with him. We shared in his vision for a kinder world. We connected on what it means to be human and humane." "Like so many of you, I am grieving the death of David Henry Breaux, known as the 'Compassion Guy.' ... David led a life with real purpose, to connecting humanity for the greater good, something we should all aspire to do," stated the UC Davis chancellor. Furthermore, Dominguez supposedly killed Najm on April 29 while he was returning from an undergraduate awards function, and on May 1, the accused attempted to murder the homeless woman.
