Internet divided over Mark Zuckerberg's Instagram Threads app for sharing content and public conversations

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mark Zuckerberg recently made an announcement regarding the release of the initial version of Threads, an app developed by the Instagram team. The app is designed for text sharing and provides users, whether they are creators or casual posters, with a dedicated platform for real-time updates and public conversations. The aim is to make Threads compatible with open, interoperable social networks, aligning with the vision of shaping the future of the internet.

Threads allows users to start conversations and share content with text, links, photos, videos, or a combination of them. Users can create threads and replies, which can be seen by their followers in their feeds and on their profiles. The visibility of posts is determined by the privacy settings on the user's profile. People can engage with the posts by replying, liking, sharing, quoting, or reposting the content. The app is open to anyone with an Instagram account, allowing them to create a Threads profile and join in the discussions on the platform.

'Needs a proper website for mobile browsers'

The introduction of the Threads app has generated various reactions on social media. Users have been expressing their opinions and feedback about the app's features and functionality. One user wrote on Twitter, "PLEASE make the timeline/feed ONLY people we follow and make it chronological order. Or at the very least give us the option to select these. This is the biggest complaint I've seen so far by a mile and one that could put people off from using it if it's not changed." Another user wrote, "Just heads up, if you ever wanna delete your threads account, you’d also be deleting the instagram account it’s attached to." A third user said, "Needs a proper web site for mobile browsers. Requiring an application to be installed isn't helpful." "Unless and until we can create a standalone Threads account, I’ll have to pass. I don’t have Instagram and don’t plan on getting it just to try Threads. Too bad. I would’ve been interested in checking out Threads otherwise," added a fourth.

'Looks great so far'

"I (am) loving it, sweet it got me automatically verified on there too," wrote one user. Another one asked, "Looks great so far but why is there no feed that allows me only to see people I follow? I don’t want a load of random Thread suggestions, I want to see stuff from people I follow only, like on Twitter." A third commented, "I’ve already blocked 28 people on Threads! Amazing growth for a new app!!"
