CANNES, FRANCE: Lily-Rose Depp is "happy" for her father Johnny Depp's series of premieres at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. On Tuesday, May 23, the actress opened up about what she thought about her father's appearance at the opening night of the festival on May 16 where he received a seven-minute standing ovation for his biographical drama 'Jeanne du Barry'.

"I'm super happy for him. I'm super excited. And it's so awesome that we get to do projects that we're super proud of," the 23-year-old actress told Entertainment Tonight. The Golden Globe award winner attended the film festival a year after the widely talked about defamation trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

'He was living a destructive life'

Talking about the Hollywood legend's comeback, Lily-Rose said that her father "is doing fantastic" now. A source told People that Depp "really enjoys working and touring again. He has managed to turn his life around." After his tour with his band 'The Hollywood Vampire', the veteran actor is set to direct the film 'Modi'. "He is prioritizing his health and work," the insider said.

"He was living a destructive life and people close to him were concerned. Everyone is excited about how he turned things around. He is much happier too," the source added.

Lily-Rose's Cannes appearance for controversial HBO drama

Depp's daughter also made it to the prestigious festival where the debut of her controversial HBO series 'The Idol' was screened at Cannes on Monday, May 22. The much-hyped drama starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose is directed by Sam Levinson.

The Chanel model attended the screening and watched it for the first time with an audience. She said the feeling was "incredible," and added that "It felt such a beautiful celebration and a culmination of everything that we've been through together, and just kind of a beautiful process that was in the show — and creating this little family together and it just felt really, really nice."

"It was the first time that I had watched it with an audience outside of like, myself and Sam and Ashley and Abel, which is just kind of how I watched the first couple of episodes," she said.

"But it was incredible. It felt like such a beautiful celebration and a culmination of everything that we've been through together, and just kind of a beautiful process that was in the show, and creating this little family together, and it just felt really, really nice," she further added before adding "Especially to get to celebrate together, and we're just so happy for the response from the room. It felt really nice to watch the reaction and everything, and finally get to share something with the world that we're all so proud of."
