LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cher looks gorgeous on the cover of Paper magazine, donning a platinum blond bouffant and face gems.
In the interview, the iconic artist discusses her first-ever holiday album, 'Christmas'.
“The reason I didn’t do one was because I couldn’t figure out a way to do one,” she said while answering why she hadn’t dropped a festive album before.
“I couldn’t feel the way to make a Christmas album come from me, and then Sarah gave me ‘DJ’, and I thought, ‘Okay, I could do this,'” the 'I Got You Babe' singer referring to her first single from the celebrated album.
Cher says if left to her, she won't be a singer
Dominating the music industry for decades, Cher is still a critic of her own unique talent.
“I just never liked my voice that much,” she told the outlet. “If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice.”
She continued, “I've made so many albums, and some of the ones I thought were as good as I could, like an album of mine, weren’t hits. And then other ones that I was not that excited about [were]. But my career has been like this [makes an up-and-down motion].”
“So I like this album. I’m not a Cher fan, but I like doing it. When I listen to it, I think this worked out. It wasn't planned out, but it worked out.”
She further clarified, “It doesn’t sound like a man; it doesn’t sound like a woman. I’m somewhere more in-between.”
Cher said in her ‘Save up All Your Tears’ song, “One of my favorite songs and I was singing about a boyfriend who had broken up with me. So it had a special feeling for me, and I thought it was something that everybody could relate to, but not so much.”
What success means to Cher
The ‘Moonstruck’ actress admitted she’s not a big admirer of modern-day pop. “There are things that I really like, but I don’t listen to the radio anymore,” she said before adding that her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, “is always bringing me things to listen to.”
On what success means to her, Cher said, “She’s had lots of failures,” but “success is not a thing.” “Success is like different moments, like pearls, and if you string them on long enough, you’ve got a necklace.”
