THE PEAK, HONG KONG: A French stuntman, who is known for participating in extreme sports, has tragically died after falling from the 68th-story of a 721ft high skyscraper in Hong Kong. Remi Lucidi, 30, known as 'Remi Enigma' on social media, was climbing the Tregunter Tower, a residential block, in Hong Kong's upscale Mid-Levels area, when he fell to his death on Thursday, July 27.

Hong Kong officials noted that Lucidi arrived at the building around 6 pm and informed the security officer that he was going to meet his friend on the 40th floor. The security then cross-checked with the alleged friend, who confirmed that he was not acquainted with Lucidi. Officers immediately made an attempt to detain the thrill-seeker but by then he had already secured an elevator. Later, a security camera captured Lucidi arriving on the 49th floor and then again ascending the steps to the top of the structure. The door to the rooftop was locked but Lucidi forced it open in order to take pictures from the roof.

The security officers, who chased Lucidi, revealed that they found the hatch leading to the roof open but the stuntman was nowhere in sight. Hong Kong authorities noted that he was last seen alive at 7:30 pm when he knocked on the penthouse complex's window, prompting a maid to call the police. The unnamed source claimed that officials believe Lucidi was stuck outside the penthouse and had been banging on the glass for assistance before the terrible incident, according to the South China Morning Post. After Lucidi’s death at the scene, police discovered his camera, which contained videos of his other death-defying acts. The cause of the stuntman’s death is yet to be revealed by the Hong Kong police.

Who was Remi Lucidi?

Based in Hong Kong, Lucidi described himself as a thrill-seeking photographer, who shared photos and videos of his climbing adventures with his more than 3,000 followers on Instagram. He has recently been posting pictures of himself posing on skyscrapers and scaffolding across the world, including Dubai, France, and Bulgaria. According to his social media page, he started climbing skyscrapers in 2016. Much of the footage shows him taking on daring climbs without the use of any safety harnesses. In one horrific video, he can be seen balancing on the edge of a 980-foot-high chimney in France.

Before his death, Lucidi had been staying at a hostel in Tsim Sha Tsui. The hostel's owner described him as 'friendly and humble'. 'He was healthy and fit and happy-faced,' Gurjit Kaur told SCMP, adding 'I feel very sad. He told me he was going to hike a mountain when I asked where he was going. He said he wanted to hike a lot when he was here,' he said. A staff member at the hostel said that he had spoken with Lucidi numerous times before his passing and that the guy had informed him that he was taking a holiday in Hong Kong. Police found his passport and other belongings at the hostel. In the wake of the ongoing police investigation into the event, the French consulate has been informed of Lucidi's death.
