LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie is taking a hiatus from the morning show after has been chosen for an assignment that will see her spend some time away from the studio. Savannah, who co-hosts Today’s morning show with Craig Melvin and Hoda Kotb, revealed that she will soon be heading to Paris to kick off the morning show’s countdown to the Summer Olympic Games.
Hoda said that Savannah pulled "the greatest straw on earth" when she was picked to head to Paris. The 2024 Summer Olympics, also known as Paris 2024, will run from July 26 to August 11 and will witness the best athletes going toe-to-toe for the gold medal in their respective sports. NBC is sending Savannah to cover this coveted event, but Hoda and Craig, her co-hosts, seem to be a little jealous about her trip.
'We’re kind of jealous, Craig and I'
During the Friday morning broadcast of the ‘Today’ show on June 2, Savannah looked excited to announce her departure to Paris in segments of the show. The segment revealing the announcement was also posted on Today’s Twitter account, with the caption: "Savannah is heading to Paris to kick-off our countdown to the #Paris2024 Summer Olympics!” Savannah, with a huge smile on her face, said, “To quote the Pointer Sisters, 'I'm so excited and I just can't hide it.'” She continued excitedly as she divulged the details about the nature of her assignment in Paris. “We are going to bring y'all a behind-the-scenes look at how France and Paris are preparing. We'll take you inside some of the country's most iconic landmarks. We'll be joined live by some team USA hopefuls; some names you know and some names you need to know.”
Hoda instantly admitted, “We're kind of jealous, Craig and I,” but appeared happy about her co-host’s trip to Paris. Savannah also mentioned, “We're going to check out the French Open with John McEnroe. Y'all, it's going to be lit!” which prompted Craig to joke, “Are you coming back?"
Savannah and Hoda to anchor NBC prime-time special
NBC has also raked in Savannah and Hoda for a primetime special which will specifically be dedicated to honoring celebrities for their good deeds. The two ‘Today’ hosts will anchor the show despite their busy morning routines. ‘Today’ host Carson Daly revealed, “Savannah and Hoda, alongside Lester Holt [of] Nightly News, are gonna be hosting a primetime special, 10 extraordinary people making an impact in their communities.” The network recently announced the honorees that made NBC's Inspiring America: The Inspiration List for 2023. The big names that are set to be honored are country star Reba McEntire, NBA icon LeBron James, and Hollywood actress Eva Longoria.
