'His job was to be out of range': Harrison Ford on punching Ryan Gosling in the face while filming 'Blade Runner'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Harrison Ford, who is currently gearing up for the highly anticipated fifth installment of the 'Indiana Jones' franchise, once accidentally punched Ryan Gosling in the face during the filming of 'Blade Runner 2049' in 2017. Both actors later discussed the unfortunate incident in an interview.

Ford provided an unsympathetic explanation for the incident, shedding light on how it happened. "Oh I misread the script," joked Ford. "No, we were doing a scene in flashing strobe lights, he's walking backwards, I'm walking forwards, you have to make it look like the punch was intended, but I hit him. One out of 100 times I hit him." Gosling added, "I should be lucky I didn't get hit more is the theme of this, it's not just a punch though - a Harrison Ford punch is a different animal altogether." Ford intercepted, "It was not a good punch," to which Gosling responded, "I'll be the judge of that."

'His job was to be out of the range '

"Ryan Gosling’s face was where it should not have been," Ford told GQ, and further explained how it all went down. "His job was to be out of the range of the punch. My job was also to make sure that I pulled the punch. But we were moving, and the camera was moving, so I had to be aware of the angle to the camera to make the punch look good."

Reflecting on the incident, Ford humorously remarked that considering the number of punches thrown during the filming, Gosling should actually be grateful that he was only hit once. Ford playfully attributed "90 percent" of the mishap to his co-star's involvement. As a gesture of reconciliation, Ford poured Gosling a glass of scotch but playfully kept the rest of the bottle for himself. "What? Did he f*cking expect the whole bottle? You know, I figured one drink would fix it. That was enough," Ford recalled.

'He’s a cool motherf**ker'

Meanwhile, Gosling added in his own interview, "You know, they say don’t meet your heroes, but I would say the addendum to that is ‘…unless they’re Harrison Ford.’ Cause he’s a cool motherf**ker." Gosling said that "the best part" of acting opposite Ford is "that you hang out with him and you realize that all those iconic moments from his films that you love are his, like 'I love you,' 'I know' from 'Star Wars', or shooting the guy in 'Indiana Jones'. He’s just like that all the time. Normally I’d say there are hundreds of ways to play any scene. Unless you work with Harrison and you realize there’s only one great way and he’s already figured it out."

'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' will hit theaters on June 30. In the upcoming fifth installment of the iconic movie franchise, Ford dons his archeologist's attire and wields his legendary whip for the final time. Remarkably, Disney has utilized impressive de-aging technology to present the 80-year-old actor as his younger self, creating an astounding visual transformation.

Gosling's upcoming movie 'Barbie' by Greta Gerwig is scheduled for July 21.
