One of the few Republican senators who voted to convict former president Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial for his role in the January 6 riot, said that the latest indictment showed the former president played an “active role” in instigating the chaos. A federal grand jury in Washington DC elected to indict the former president on four counts of violating three sections of the federal criminal code for his attempted scheme to stay in the White House despite losing the 2020 presidential election. Sen Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) joined six other GOP senators in 2021 to convict Mr Trump for his role in inciting the riot at the US Capitol as Mr Trump’s supporters breached the complex in an attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. “In early 2021, I voted to impeach former President Trump based on clear evidence that he attempted to overturn the 2020 election after losing it,” Ms Murkowski said in a series of posts on X , formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday evening. “Additional evidence presented since then, including by the January 6 Commission, has only reinforced that the former President played a key role in instigating the riots, resulting in physical violence and desecration of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021,” she added. Ms Murkowski won re-election in Alaska last year largely thanks to the state moving to a ranked-choice system. Mr Trump campaigned heavily for her Republican challenger Kelly Tshibaka last year. She is one of only four remaining Republican senators who voted to convict Mr Trump, along with Sens Mitt Romney (R-UT), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA). So far, she is the only Republican senator who has won re-election since voting to convict Mr Trump. Only two of the 10 Republicans who voted in the House of Representatives to impeach Mr Trump remain in the chamber. The Alaska Republican said that Mr Trump is considered innocent until proven guilty and will have his day in court like any American. “As that process begins, I encourage everyone to read the indictment, to understand the very serious allegations being made in this case,” she said. The grand jury charged Mr Trump with conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding and deprivation of rights under the colour of law after a four-hour presentation by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office. Ms Murkowski’s words differ drastically from those of her Republican colleagues, including Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who called to defund Mr Smith’s office, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has defended under-fire Andre Onana and insisted the Cameroon international is among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. Onana has repeatedly been in the spotlight since United spent £47million on the 27-year-old this summer to replace David De Gea, and although it had been felt his form was improving in recent weeks, Wednesday’s 3-3 draw against Galatasaray was a clear setback as he was at fault for two goals. Onana also made a mistake for a goal in United’s Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich, but while he has struggled in Europe, Ten Hag pointed to the statistics that say Onana is second in saves made, save percentage and goals prevented in the Premier League. “If you analyse it well then you see he is the second best goalkeeper in the Premier League based on stats, so his expected defending goals is the second best in the Premier League,” Ten Hag said. “He’s doing well. Also he knows that in the Champions League he makes some mistakes but all over you see the first five months he is doing particularly well.” Onana will face another major test on Saturday evening when United travel to Newcastle, who are on a five-game winning streak at St James’ Park. But Ten Hag does not expect Onana to suffer any hangover from Wednesday night. “You have seen how he is reacting on a bad performance like in Munich,” Ten Hag said. “At Burnley (three days later) he was outstanding. He is a strong character, he is a personality and he will deal with it.” United said on Friday that left-back Tyrell Malacia, yet to feature this season after knee surgery, is on course to return early next year after requiring a second operation. The majority of women would consider their partner listening to the Joe Rogan podcast a turn off, according to a new study. It’s become the most popular podcast in the world, with around 11 million listeners per episode, but clearly not everyone is a fan. A new study has been conducted by Change Research involving 1000 people aged between 18-34. They were all asked about their dating preferences, as well as political ideologies and other personality traits. When asked about potential turn offs in prospective partners, 55 per cent of the women involved said that their partner listening to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast would be a “red flag”. Fewer men said the same thing, with only 35 per cent saying that their partner listening to the podcast would be a turn off. The other popular red flags among women included their partner not having any hobbies, with 66 per cent saying it was an undesirable trait. The study also showed that 53 per cent of women said it was a reg flag if their partner refused to watch the Barbie movie. Rogan, incidentally, is one guy who personally can’t understand the backlash to the Barbie movie at all. He surprised haters of the film by revealing he actually really enjoyed it earlier this year. Finally, a total of 41 per cent of men said that they’d be turned off if their partner was into astrology as part of the study.
