Joachim Andersen salvages point for Crystal Palace at Brentford
Joachim Andersen’s equaliser secured Crystal Palace a 1-1 draw against unbeaten Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. A first-half stunner from Kevin Schade gave the Bees an early lead before Andersen levelled in the 76th minute. After a dominant 3-0 win away at Fulham last week, Thomas Frank’s men failed to put the game to bed which allowed the Eagles to claim a point in west London. After a quiet start from both sides, Palace burst into life through the creative Eberechi Eze. The midfielder, recently linked with a move to Manchester City, hustled to win back the ball before feeding the marauding Odsonne Edouard who was dispossessed before testing Mark Flekken. But it was the Bees who struck first in the 18th minute. Schade picked up the ball on the left hand side before driving at the Palace backline and producing a spectacular curled strike into Sam Johnstone’s top-left corner, recording his first goal for the club. Not long after, the heavens opened and the greasy surface favoured the elegant Mathias Jansen who sprayed the ball into attacking areas before a 38th-minute header from Yoane Wissa sailed over the bar. Palace had looked flat all game and it was clear their only hope was through the dangerous Eze, who after 54 minutes slalomed his way through a wall of home defenders before being denied a penalty by referee Peter Bankes when he was brought down. Soon after Edouard’s dipping free-kick tested Flekken, who was forced to make a stretched save to deny the striker. And the Dutch keeper’s heroics continued in the following sequence when he denied Jefferson Lerma’s header from close range before Brentford scrambled to block Jordan Ayew’s rebound. Palace’s persistence was rewarded 14 minutes from time. Andersen played a one-two with Ayew before driving into the box where he beat Flekken to the ball with his sliding effort. Brentford searched for a winner during five minutes added time but the Bees struggled to find the final pass. Sam Allardyce says future at Leeds will be determined after relegation decider
Sam Allardyce says future at Leeds will be determined after relegation decider
Sam Allardyce has confirmed he will discuss whether he will continue as Leeds boss with the club’s hierarchy after Sunday’s final Premier League game of the season. Allardyce gave his biggest hint yet that he would be interested in remaining in the role, even if Leeds are relegated on the final day, after their last match against Tottenham at Elland Road. The former England manager said: “That’s to be decided at the end. It’s always been a case of we will discuss whatever we need to discuss at the end of the season based on where we are. “Also based on what I think the club needs to go forward and based on what the club thinks and if that’s aligned with each other, then we’ll wait and see. “But that discussion, it doesn’t happen in a morning or one day, it happens over a period of time and I just hope that we’re talking on a very positive nature on Monday morning and I have a hangover!” Leeds’ top-flight status hinges on them beating Tottenham and even victory will not be enough to save them unless the results of both relegation rivals, Everton and Leicester, go their way. Injuries to strikers Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo in last week’s 3-1 defeat at West Ham appeared to have dealt Leeds’ survival hopes another blow. But Rodrigo returned to training on Friday while Bamford has not yet been ruled out and Allardyce said he would be prepared to take a risk with any of his injured players with so much at stake. “I’ll gamble on anyone’s fitness if they want to play, if I think they can make a contribution to help us try to win the game,” Allardyce said. “It’s the last game, they will have plenty of time to recover, but there is obviously medical issues where if you play them the risk is too great and a lot of it is up to the player himself.” Leeds turned to Allardyce after sacking Javi Gracia with four games of the season remaining in a last-ditch bid to escape the drop. The former Bolton, West Ham and Everton boss has collected just one point in his first three outings but said camp spirit had risen after last week’s bitter disappointment when survival was taken out of Leeds’ hands. The 68-year-old, whose side have trained this week at Elland Road, added: “I’ve loved the mood and loved the application. We’re going to live or die on Sunday in terms of the result. “We train here (at Elland Road) for three days building up to the game. Familiarity, it’s all about this arena on Sunday with obviously the fantastic atmosphere that will go with it.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Six former Yorkshire players sanctioned by CDC in Azeem Rafiq racism case The pressure is amazing – Unai Emery relishing shot at European qualification Manager Julen Lopetegui will continue talks over Wolves future

Debates about 'Lightning McQueen's Piston Cup wins' are going viral as Cars becomes surprising trend
Debates about 'Lightning McQueen's Piston Cup wins' are going viral as Cars becomes surprising trend
Serena Williams, Lionel Messi, and Lewis Hamilton are legends of their sport, but fans of the 2006 film Cars also believe Lightning McQueen is also up there as one of the GOATs. The debate began in a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show where a viewer - Danny in Wisconsin - asked the host where McQueen's Piston Cup wins would rank him amongst the sporting GOATs. “When you think about the GOAT of sports… where do you rank a guy like Lightning McQueen with seven Piston Cups?” he asked. It's fair to say Smith had a strong opinion on this topic, where he brought in the achievements of another character from the film - Strip ‘The King’ Weathers. “I would tell you, he wouldn’t be the GOAT… When you talk about Strip ‘The King’ Weathers and Lightning McQueen, they’re both tied with seven Piston Cups. How can you be the GOAT if you’ve got something tied with you? Sorry, that ain’t going to work,” he argued. Smith then accused Danny of trying to “catch him” out with Strip’s equally impressive record of seven Piston cups, equal to McQueen's. “You didn’t think I knew about Cars, did you? You slept on a brother,” the host said. He continued: “Strip Weathers has seven Piston Cups. I am not about to sit and argue with a grown-ass man about the movie Cars… you should have brought me someone who didn’t have as many Piston Cups." To which Smith then asked why the Cars characters were the subject of the debate rather than Fast & Furious. Danny shot back, making the point that Cars is “real to little kids” – but Smith was prepared with a rebuttal. “You’re not a little kid! You’re 21. You would have a point if you were seven years old [and] calling me. What are you doing, wearing a diaper?” he screamed there off-road and then proceeded to hang up on Danny. The clip has since gone viral receiving a whopping 28.1m views, and 140,000 likes. Meanwhile, there has also recently been further debate where Cars fans are ranking the characters in terms of their achievements. Many argued that Lightning McQueen is the GOAT - he does have main character energy after all. @alexcolemann @benlikessports Jackson Storm get ready to leaen chinese buddy? However, not everyone agrees... One person said: "Strip Weathers won in 4 different eras. that’s all I’m gonna say." "Gotta be the King Strip Weathers ALL DAY," another person wrote. Someone else added: "Strip Weathers was the Messi of cars." "Strip weathers dominated in his own gen 2 era along with the gen 3off-road and gen 4 cars and he’s #2? The longevity over McQueen puts him at 1 in my book," a fourth person commented. Guess we'll all have to watch Cars again...
