Man hires a naked cleaner as a 'treat' – but it all goes pearshaped
Man hires a naked cleaner as a 'treat' – but it all goes pearshaped
We all have our own coping mechanisms when it comes to heartbreak – whether that be sobbing into a friend’s shoulder, drowning our sorrows at the pub, or consuming ungodly amounts of chocolate. But one man sought a very different form of solace when his marriage ended and, let’s just say, it all went a bit t*ts up. The man opened up about his misguided attempt to console himself in a post shared to the popular ‘Fesshole’ X/Twitter account, where people share their most personal – and mortifying – secrets. In the anonymous confession, he explained that he’d hired a unique form of stripper to keep him entertained at home but, in the end, it wasn’t the “treat” he’d imagined it would be. He wrote: “Having split from my wife I hired a naked cleaner as a treat to myself. “But I find it so awkward sitting in my house, while a young naked woman dusts that I've started going out when I know she's coming. “So I'm parked up somewhere hiding while a naked woman cleans my empty house.” The admission racked up more than 980,000 views and 7,900 likes in just three days as streams of commentators offered less-than-complimentary assessments of the situation. “Every sentence was exponentially more pathetic than the one before, well done, quite an achievement,” wrote one critic. “If watching someone clean in the nude is your idea of a treat, I can see why your wife dropped you,” added another. "Perhaps if you had a little more respect for women you'd still have a wife,” suggested a third. “You seem to be handling your divorce great, mate,” jibed a fourth. “Bro just get a regular cleaner or tell her to start wearing clothes. It would probably be a highlight in her day considering only creepy men hire her,” said a fifth. Meanwhile, others wanted to know how he’d found his… unique cleaning service. “Wondered if this was an actual thing. Since I'm WFH on my own laptop today, just had a quick Google,” one admitted. “There's a company that does this.” Then, throwing some conspiracy theory into the mix, they suggested that the anonymous confessor didn’t hire a naked cleaner but owns the naked cleaning company, and “want[ed] the free advertising.” All we can say is, we’ll stick to hoovering our own carpets, fully clothed, thanks. Changes on and off the pitch as a new era approaches for Women’s Super League
Changes on and off the pitch as a new era approaches for Women’s Super League
After a summer in which the England team took another historic step forward, the Women’s Super League returns this week with the next major phase in its development on the horizon. New ground was broken by the Lionesses once again as, a year on from claiming their first major trophy with Euros glory on home soil, they reached a maiden World Cup final. While they ended up being edged 1-0 by Spain on August 20, the exploits of Sarina Wiegman’s side at the tournament in Australia and New Zealand only further strengthened the sense of momentum surrounding the English women’s game. The WSL has been a key contributor to that as well and, as the start of the 2023-24 season draws near, there has been much talk about the division – which has been fully professional since 2018 – entering a new era. An independent company currently being referred to as ‘NewCo’ is set to take over the running of the league and the second-tier Championship from the Football Association from the start of 2024-25 onwards, and WSL chair Dawn Airey has spoken about the ambition to create the first billion-pound league structure in women’s football. Indicators of the growth the WSL has enjoyed to this point include its broadcast deal with Sky and the BBC that started in 2021 and runs to the end of this coming season, and attendance figures, with the FA reporting the average rose by 170 per cent in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22, and a record 47,367 watching Arsenal v Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium last September. That high mark may well be surpassed on the first day of the 2023-24 campaign this Sunday, when Arsenal are back at the stadium to kick-off with a clash against Liverpool – ticket sales hit 48,000 with a few days still to go in the build-up to the match. The season will see a number of matches taking place at Premier League grounds, with three of those coming in the opening round. Arsenal have committed to Jonas Eidevall’s Gunners, who came third last term as well as winning the League Cup, playing five WSL games at the Emirates across the season. And the number is four for champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, starting with Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham as Emma Hayes’ side – also FA Cup winners last term – open their bid for a fifth league title on the bounce. The runners-up to the Blues in both the league and FA Cup last season, their best finish in either competition, were Manchester United, who begin on Sunday by facing Aston Villa at Villa Park – minus Alessia Russo, after the England striker left in the summer and joined Arsenal. It has also been confirmed that Marc Skinner’s United will play their WSL derbies against Manchester City this term at Old Trafford (November) and the Etihad Stadium (March). Elsewhere on the opening day, Gareth Taylor’s City, seeking to bounce back after finishing outside the Champions League berths in fourth last season, are away against West Ham, who have a new boss in Rehanne Skinner. Skinner, successor to Paul Konchesky, was previously at Tottenham, where Robert Vilahamn has replaced interim Vicky Jepson in the division’s other summer managerial change. Everton host Brighton at Walton Hall Park, while newly-promoted Bristol City start their top-flight return by taking on Leicester at Ashton Gate, the ground set to be the venue for all the Robins’ WSL home games this term. Labour use the Liz Truss lettuce to make point about the Tories economic failure
Labour use the Liz Truss lettuce to make point about the Tories economic failure
The Labour Party has brutally mocked the Tories' failure to deal with the economy with the Liz Truss lettuce. Last year, the former prime minister became associated with the salad vegetable when the Economist published a column saying she had caused turmoil during her premiership faster than the time it takes for a lettuce to go bad. It said: "Liz Truss is already a historical figure. However long she now lasts in office, she is set to be remembered as the prime minister whose grip on power was the shortest in British political history. Ms Truss entered Downing Street on September 6th. She blew up her own government with a package of unfunded tax cuts and energy-price guarantees on September 23rd. Take away the ten days of mourning after the death of the queen, and she had seven days in control. That is the shelf-life of a lettuce." The Daily Star then ran with the idea of livestreaming a lettuce, asking whether it or Truss would last longer (the lettuce won). After that, the lettuce became the most lasting symbol of Truss's premiership. Now, posting on Twitter, the opposition party has brought the meme back with a picture of a lettuce in a wig with googly eyes, to make a point about soaring inflation. They wrote: "The lettuce that outlasted Liz Truss would cost 20 per cent more today thanks to Tory economic failure." They added: "This is the cost of the Tories." Food inflation is coming down, but it is still very high. Latest British Retail Consortium (BRC) data suggests it dropped to 11.5 per cent in August from 13.1 per cent in July and 17.4 per cent in June. In the last year, popular staple supermarket items like eggs have seen an annual increase of 17.3 per cent to an average of £2.65 per pack, compared to 17.2 per cent for baked beans (£1.98), 7.2 per cent for toilet rolls (£5.83), and 5.9 per cent for milk (£1.80). Meanwhile, Labour have been ramping up their attack ads lately, recently attacking the Tories over the Raac crisis in schools. Now they've brought back the lettuce, it is clear Truss will never catch a break. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
