Woman starts debate after charging friends for home cooked dinner
A woman has turned to the internet for advice after being asked to pay to attend her friend's dinner party. Generally, when dinner parties come around, the main focus is the food, drinks and company. Not for one group of pals, though, who were hit with an invoice. Taking to Mumsnet to vent, the woman explained how "they sent us a message after asking for money for each person!" She started her rant by saying she and her partner took a "bottle of good wine" as they would never go empty-handed to someone's dinner party. The woman said they enjoyed a "good meal," but were later hit with a message asking for money. "I thought this was crazy and I would never ask anyone to pay for their food if I invited them over," she continued. She then handed the mic to fellow Mumsnet users to ask whether her feeling "a bit annoyed" was justifiable. "That’s awful behaviour," one person chimed in, adding: "What is wrong with some people?!" "That’s incredibly rude," a second person wrote. "If they couldn’t afford to host then they should have asked everyone over and to bring a plate of food. Or say come over and we will get a takeaway but would everyone mind paying for their own share." They continued: "But to ask for money afterwards is just crazy." Another user suggested she should refuse to pay. "Send them a message back saying absolutely not," they wrote. "If you want to charge then you should say costs upfront so you can make an informed choice. Don't do the polite thing and pay up. This is how the f***ers get away with it." Dad divides the internet with reaction to his daughter's coming out
A father has divided the internet over his reaction to his daughter coming out. Posting on Reddit, the man explained that his 23-year-old daughter organised a dinner where she came out and introduced him and her mother to her girlfriend - but it didn't go well. While her mother "was emotional gave her a big hug, and told her how proud she was", the dad "did not react". "I honestly did not care about that part," he explained. His chilled attitude got him in trouble. "My wife told me I was rude for ignoring our daughter's announcement," he wrote. "I told my wife that I did not care who she was attracted to all I cared about was if she was happy. I tried to explain I did not care about that stuff, people like who they like I don't need labels for that. Love is love." "She said my view is slightly homophobic because it shows I am not acknowledging a different view," he continued. Responding, people had mixed opinions. Some people thought his reaction was perfect. "I will never understand what is 'homophobic' about people treating gay children exactly the same as they treat straight children," one said. "Isn't that the ideal that we are striving for?" Another said: "Your reaction is the right one, because homosexuality shouldn’t be a big deal, it’s one way of life and it’s just as fine as being straight or whatever." But others were not so sure. "I do think it might come across weird if one parent gives the child a hug and the other just sits there saying nothing really to acknowledge what was said," one commented. Another wrote: "Your daughter probably agonised for years over telling you and your wife. Planned it all out. Analysed how you would react and what she would do. So it's probably a lot for you too basically just ignore it, as telling you was a huge deal to her." Later, he updated commenters on the situation and said he met with his daughter to explain his actions. "As I suspected she did not have an issue with it, and she also felt it was self-explanatory when she introduced her girlfriend," he wrote. However "her girlfriend thought it was weird how I kind of brushed off the response and treated this situation as if they were a straight couple." So he is going to organise "a more special event for the sake of her girlfriend". "My daughter had no issues overall, but I will correct course," he concluded. All's well that ends well. Bryan Kohberger – live: Idaho murders victims’ families react ahead of court hearing about cameras at trial
Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger is back in court on Wednesday where a judge will hear arguments on banning cameras from the courtroom in the high-profile trial. Attorneys for both the defence and the prosecution have asked to restrict cameras as the case of the brutal slayings of four University of Idaho students continues to attract national attention. The former criminology PhD student was indicted earlier this year in the November 2022 killings of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, at their off-campus house in Moscow. In August, Mr Kohberger’s defence team asked Latah County District Judge John Judge to bar cameras from the courtroom, claiming that the media coverage violated his constitutional rights. Last week, Latah County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Thompson responded to the motion with his own concerns and requested the judge remove cameras “at a minimum” during the “sensitive testimony of a number of young and vulnerable witnesses.” Meanwhile, the families of Goncalves and Kernodle released a statement saying that they want to keep cameras in the courtroom as they want the “veil of secrecy” to be lifted from the case.
