Ukraine-Russia war – live: Moscow fails in bid to return to UN’s top human rights body
Russia failed in its bid to return to the United Nations’ top human rights body on Tuesday, in a sign Moscow will continue to be isolated on the international stage. In a secret ballot, Russia won 83 votes versus 160 for Bulgaria and 123 for Albania, which both competed against it for two seats on the Human Rights Council. “UN member states sent a strong signal to Russia’s leadership that a government responsible for countless war crimes and crimes against humanity doesn’t belong there,” said Louis Charbonneau, United Nations director at Human Rights Watch. Russia was ousted from the council 18 months ago following its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. It comes as Vladimir Putin’s forces launched 36 Iranian-made attack drones, targeting the Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, the Ukrainian military reported, adding that air defence systems destroyed 27 drones. Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said unspecified “logistics infrastructure” in his region had been damaged but that no injuries were reported. Elsewhere, Volodymyr Zelensky today he had “good news” on artillery and air defence supplies after talks with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest. Husband arrested for murder of Georgia mother who vanished two weeks ago
The husband of a Georgia mother-of-four who disappeared more than two weeks ago has been arrested for her murder. Imani Roberson was last seen on 16 July in Conyers, where she was leaving her mother's home. Her car was later found burned and broken into pieces near Atlanta, approximately 24 miles away, according to NBC News. Her body was reportedly found on Friday. Her husband Donell Anderson was then arrested at an apartment complex in Atlanta, and was charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm, according to Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett. He said during a news conference that more arrests were coming in the case. "This investigation is still ongoing and I can assure you that another arrest will be made," he told reporters. Police said Roberson disappeared after she and her four children visited her mother's house for a family dinner. She left two of the children with her mother and returned home with her three-year-old and one-month-old. The next day Roberson's mother called her repeatedly, but she did not answer. When she traveled to her daughter's house to find her, she found no one there. She filed a missing person's report on 17 July. All four of Roberson's children are currently safe, police said. Clarine Andujar-White, Roberson's mother, said the day that Mr Anderson was charged had been a "very difficult day" for her family. "When I couldn’t reach Imani almost three weeks ago, I knew something was wrong," she said. "Late last night my worst fears were confirmed and our family is devastated." Her father, Ronald Acklin, said that it was "not the news" the family was hoping for. The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office has asked members of the public with information regarding Ms Roberson's disappearance to come forward. "Put yourself in the shoes of this family. Put yourself in the shoes of this mother and father who not only just lost a daughter, they lost a daughter that has four children that's young as 1 month old," the sheriff said. "If you have a heart and you know something ... you would call and give us information." Kenny McLean savours special moment after scoring late Scotland winner in Norway
Kenny McLean savoured a special moment in his career after his last-gasp winner earned Scotland a crucial three Euro 2024 qualifying points from a 2-1 victory in Norway. McLean struck a composed 89th-minute finish with his right foot 10 minutes after coming off the bench and two minutes after Lyndon Dykes had cancelled out Erling Haaland’s 61st-minute opener from the penalty spot. Left midfielder McLean said: “It was pretty special, a really good moment for everyone involved and obviously for the fans that travelled – it was amazing, I can hear them outside now. “Obviously I have only had the San Marino goal previously so I am delighted to score such a meaningful goal. “I don’t know if I was too happy with Dykesy – setting me up on my right – but thankfully it worked. It doesn’t come out much but thankfully it paid off.” McLean was part of a triple change from manager Steve Clarke which also saw Billy Gilmour and Stuart Armstrong come on, after Liam Cooper had earlier replaced the fatigued Kieran Tierney. The Norwich player said: “The manager is constantly going about the squad, it’s a squad game and that’s what we are always about. “The majority of times we make four or five subs so everyone needs to be ready and thankfully the lads that came on were. “We have worked for the last couple of weeks together, we had the camp in Spain and worked hard throughout, so to get the rewards is excellent.” Dykes was delighted with his goal and assist after a challenging night up front on his own in temperatures of about 30 degrees at kick-off. The QPR striker said: “It was a tough game. They played well. We didn’t play as well as we wanted to play but I was waiting for that opportunity all night and I was just happy to see it go in. “It’s a hard position sometimes, it doesn’t always go your way. Balls were coming up to me, flying everywhere and they were probably getting the better of me. But I was trying to keep my head and wait for the opportunity. “I have to keep rolling on and hopefully when the chances come, they go in because the ball rolling in that goal was the slowest thing I have ever seen in my life and I was having a heart attack. I was just happy to see it go over the line. “And obviously when Kenny scored, it was the icing on the cake.” Scotland extended their lead at the top of Group A but face a quick turnaround before Tuesday’s visit of Georgia. McLean said: “It was a massive step for us in the group but we have a lot of work to do and we have a game in a few days. “We will enjoy this now but we need to go and recover. Nobody wants to hear it but that’s what we have to do.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Justin Thomas predicts shortest hole in modern US Open history could be ‘spicy’ Dejan Kulusevski’s loan spell at Tottenham turned into permanent deal Usman Khawaja’s first ton in England ‘a bit more emotional’ after crowd taunts

Trump and one co-defendant plead not guilty in superseding Mar-a-Lago indictment
Donald Trump and his aide Walt Nauta pleaded not guilty in federal court on several charges claiming that the former president kept classified documents at his private Florida club Mar-a-Lago and attempted to hide some of them from government authorities with the help of his staffers. Mr Trump, who waived his right to appear at the Thursday arraignment in Fort Pierce, Florida, entered his plea via his lawyers. The ex-president was initially charged with 37 crimes in a June indictment, to which he pleaded not guilty. The following month, prosecutors added another three charges in a superseding indictment. Mr Trump pleaded not guilty to those charges on Thursday. Mr Nauta attended the hearing on Thursday, where he also pleaded not guilty after being charged with six charges in the initial indictment and another two counts in the superseding filing.
