Wolves move quickly to appoint Gary O’Neil following Julen Lopetegui departure
Wolves have moved swiftly to install Gary O’Neil as Julen Lopetegui’s replacement as head coach. The 40-year-old, the club’s first British coach in six years, was sacked by Bournemouth in June despite guiding the Cherries to survival. He has signed a three-year deal after Wolves and Lopetegui came to an “agreement to part ways” on Tuesday after disagreements over recruitment and the direction of the club. “We’re delighted to welcome Gary to the club,” said sporting director Matt Hobbs. “He’s a highly-motivated young coach with strong principles and very well thought of by everyone he has worked with, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together at Wolves. “Our players have shown their quality during pre-season, and I believe Gary and his team will continue to coach and improve them and will have success working with this group. “Everyone at Wolves is looking forward to welcoming Gary, offering him their full support and working collaboratively to help the club to keep pushing forward together.” With just a couple of days until the Premier League season kicks off O’Neil’s first match in charge will be against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday. David Bowie once had Tina Turner in hysterics with a very rude on stage comment
David Bowie once whispered something NSFW to the late Tina Turner, leaving the superstar in hysterics on stage. During a gig in Birmingham for her 1985 Private Dancer tour, Bowie joined Turner on stage for the song 'Tonight'. It was then that Bowie was seen mouthing something, which lip readers reportedly interpreted as: "My c**k still hurts." The late stars shared a close friendship over the years, with Turner once saying he told her he loved her. At the time, Turner said: "I saw him, he was performing some place in Brussels and I went to see him. "He was just in a shirt, trousers and a guitar and almost acapella and that was the actual last time I went to his dressing room and said hello and talked about the show. "I remember the last thing he said. He said, ‘I love you Tina’ and I said ‘I love you, David.'" Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Tina Turner - Tonight (with David Bowie) [Live] youtu.be It comes after Oprah Winfrey led tributes for the late star, who sadly passed away "peacefully" on Wednesday (24 May) at age 83. The US host called Turner "a role model not only for me but for the world", in a lengthy tribute posted to Instagram. "She is our forever goddess of rock ‘n’ roll who contained a magnitude of inner strength that grew throughout her life,” she wrote, sharing multiple pictures from their long friendship. "She was a role model not only for me but for the world. She encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed." Winfrey continued that she was "grateful" for Turner’s courage and that her freedom from her domestic abuse had been "a clarion call for triumph". "I’m grateful for her courage, for showing us what victory looks like wearing Manolos and a leather miniskirt," she said. "She once shared with me that when her time came to leave this earth, she would not be afraid, but excited and curious. Because she had learned how to LIVE surrounded by her beloved husband, Erwin, and friends. "I am a better woman, a better human, because her life touched mine. She was indeed simply the best." Police investigating deaths of two aspiring models in apartment buildings days apart
Police in Los Angeles are investigating after two aspiring models were found dead in apartment complexes just days apart. One of the deaths has already been ruled a murder, while the second is still under investigation. Police said it was too early to say if the cases are connected, according to ABC News. Maleesa Mooney, 31, was killed on 12 September. Police found her around 3.45pm PST by officers responding to a welfare check at her apartment. That death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the broadcaster, citing an LAPD spokesperson. “The investigation revealed that Maleesa Mooney had been murdered inside of her apartment. Maleesa Mooney’s exact cause of death is unknown, pending a post-mortem examination which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office,” police said in a statement on 15 September. Nichole "Nikki" Coats, 32, was killed on 10 September. Her cause of death is "undetermined" at this point, but a homicide investigation may begin following the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner report. Ms Mooney's family held a rally in LA on Sunday evening demanding justice for the woman's death. The woman's sister, Jourdin Pauline, told an ABC News affiliate that her family became concerned after multiple failed attempts to get in touch with her. "We're supposed to grow old together," Ms Pauline told KABC. "That's not supposed to happen to her." She described her sister as "kind," "genuine," and "loving." "To have someone do what they did to my sister, to that caliber, is sick. It's demented,” she said. The LAPD has asked that anyone with information regarding Ms Mooney's death come forward. Ms Coats' father, Guy Coats, told ABC News that he and his family are "distraught" after learning of her death. He said Ms Coats was an aspiring model who worked as a sale rep in her daytime hours. On 12 September, a cousin who had spent time with Ms Coats told Mr Coats that she couldn't get ahold of the woman. Ms Coats cousin had a key to her apartment and let herself in to see if she was home. She found Ms Coats unresponsive, and said when she touched her she "was like a rock." The cousin then called 911. Ms Coats family became suspicious that foul play led to the woman's death after learning that another aspiring model had been killed just days before, only three miles from her apartment. The family is currently awaiting the coroner's report.
