Everyone’s favourite self-deprecating Scot, Lewis Capaldi, set his old school a challenge to create a “deliberately odd” sculpture of him – and… well… they certainly delivered. The “Someone You Loved” singer, whose second album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent came out on Friday, made a visit to St Kentigern’s Academy in West Lothian on Tuesday morning – ahead of two intimate acoustic performances in Edinburgh later. Sharing pictures of the big unveiling to Twitter, the academy’s art department wrote: “So today our Top Secret project was unveiled at SWG3 with a young musician and ex-pupil who has done quite well – Lewis Capaldi. “The amazing S4 students and art staff created a deliberately odd sculpture of Lewis as requested by his team. He loved it and laughed along!” The artwork was created to coincide with the release of Capaldi's sophomore album, which follows on from his 2019 debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. After being presented with the sculpture, the "Forget Me" songwriter joked: “You’ve really captured my essence. It’s pretty weird-looking, but I like it.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter He went on to thank the students for creating it, saying he does “genuinely love it” but that it “will give me nightmares”. “It’s a weird thing to look at – like yourself, but not yourself.” And Twitter was impressed by the creation too: Of course, it’s not the first eyebrow-raising piece of art to be made in recent years, as back in 2012 a botched attempt to restore a painting of Jesus Christ went viral because it was that bad. Then in 2017, there was the infamous sculpture/bust of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, which was just as troubling. German bodybuilder Jo Lindner, known online has Joesthetics, has died from an aneurysm in Thailand, aged 30. The news was confirmed by the fitness influencer’s girlfriend Nicha on Saturday (1 July). Posting pictures of herself with Lindner on her Instagram feed, Nicha paid tribute to the YouTuber she desribed as sweet, kind, and hardworking. “And he is the believer in EVERYONE,” she continued. “specially [sic] ME he believes in me that I could be better and be someone in this world.” Lindner had 8.4 million Instagram followers, and his YouTube videos reportedly earned nearly 500 million views. Nicha said Lindner suffered an aneurysm after complaining of pain in his neck earlier this week. She also said she was with him when he died. An aneurysm is an abnormal swelling or bulge in the wall of a blood vessel. “[The] Last word he said [to me]: ‘Bae we all always can start again and that is the key. always keep start [sic] again,” she later wrote on her Instagram Stories. Subsequently, Nicha appeared to address speculation around Lindner’s cause of death, writing it’s unfair to her partner that people “guess how he die [sic] or say he overdose”. She added that if Lindner was “brave enough” to admit he used steroids, there was no reason not to believe him. In an interview with fellow bodybuilder Bradley Martyn last month, Lindner spoke about being diagnosed with rippling muscle disease, a rare genetic condition that causes muscles to become unsually sensitive to movement or pressure. According to the Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center (GARD), the disorder is characterised by “signs of increased muscle irritability” such as repetitive tensing of the muscle, “bunching up” of the muscle, and/or prominent rippling. “Technically, it’s a cramp,” Lindner told Martyn, during an episode of the latter’s Raw Talk show. After news of Lindner’s death broke, fellow bodybuilder Noel Deyzel confirmed the reports were true on his Instagram Stories. “This is not a joke. His mother requested that we inform people about the situation,” he wrote. “Please keep Jo and his loved ones in your prayers. “I still just can’t f***ing believe it. Rest in peace brother.” Another one of Lindner’s friends, known as Vigorous Steve, posted a YouTube video shortly after his death, explaining that the cause of death reports were based on preliminary findings. “We’re still waiting for the autopsy reports,” he added. Aaron Ramsdale’s father has criticised Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for not telling his son why he has been dropped in favour of David Raya. England goalkeeper Ramsdale started in Arsenal’s first four Premier League games, but has been relegated to the bench following Raya’s arrival on loan from Brentford. Ramsdale’s father, Nick, told The Highbury Corner podcast that his son had “lost his smile” and was finding it difficult after not being given an explanation by Arteta. Nick Ramsdale said: “Aaron’s lost that smile to when he was holding on to that ball at this moment in time and it is difficult. “It really is difficult to see him there and we all keep saying ‘you need to keep smiling’.” He added: “It’s possibly the way it’s been done. Not knowing the reason why, and this is me because we don’t know why. Again, Aaron is working as hard as he can. He’s trying to do his best for the squad. Aston Villa scored two stoppage-time goals to complete a late turnaround as they won 3-1 against Crystal Palace, who were without their unwell manager Roy Hodgson. The 76-year-old was taken ill on Saturday morning and did not travel to Villa Park, but looked like he was going to receive the perfect tonic as his side led through Odsonne Edouard’s early second-half goal. But Jhon Duran fired home an exquisite equaliser in the 87th minute and then Douglas Luiz struck from the penalty spot in the eighth minute of added time after the decision had survived a rigorous pitchside monitor check by referee Darren England. Leon Bailey’s goal two minutes later sealed what was a worthy victory for the hosts, who bossed the majority of the game. It was their ninth home league win in a row, which equals their best post-war record as things continue to look up under Unai Emery. Palace did not say how poorly their manager was before the game, but did confirm he would be in touch with first-team coaches Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington throughout the encounter. But his mood would not have been improved after the chaotic end to the match where his side conceded three times in 13 minutes. Palace also endured a tough opening, with Villa’s pace and running causing them problems. They did not make it easy for themselves either and Joel Ward presented Ollie Watkins with a golden chance to open the scoring as he misplaced a pass and the Villa striker went clean through on goal but Sam Johnstone produced a good save to rescue his captain. Hodgson would not have enjoyed what he was seeing remotely and it looked like they fell behind in the 34th minute. Moussa Diaby, living on the shoulder of the Palace backline, was superbly picked out by Pau Torres and the France international raced clear and clinically fired home. However, he was marginally ruled offside by VAR and Palace again escaped. There were more sighs of relief soon after as Matty Cash miskicked his shot after good work by Nicolo Zaniolo and then the Poland right-back headed over another good chance. Palace had barely threatened in the first half, but went ahead inside two minutes of the restart. Jean-Philippe Mateta spun Torres on the right and sent in an inviting cross for Edouard to slide past Emiliano Martinez, who had slipped but would have been out of position anyway. It was the 25-year-old striker’s fourth Premier League goal of the season and gave Palace a lead out of nowhere. Palace threatened to build on that advantage and should have gone 2-0 up on the hour-mark but Ward could only divert Joachim Andersen’s header wide of the post from close range. They could have done with that going in as Villa launched an assault in search of an equaliser. Duran fired straight at Johnstone with his first touch after coming on before the hosts came within inches of levelling. Watkins and Bailey both had shots blocked in quick succession and the ball again went to Watkins, and his first-time curling effort hit a post before rebounding off Johnstone and just wide. The breakthrough eventually came three minutes from time as Duran superbly controlled Lucas Digne’s cross on his chest and then lashed in a fierce left-footed shot. Five minutes later they were awarded a penalty when Chris Richards brought down Watkins, with referee England taking nearly three minutes in front of the monitor to decide a foul had been committed after the Palace defender impeded his opponent.
