Evan Ferguson can become European scoring great – Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi believes Brighton star Evan Ferguson can develop into one of Europe’s leading strikers after he became only the fourth teenager to hit a Premier League hat-trick. The 18-year-old joined late former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Chris Bart-Williams and ex-Liverpool strikers Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen on an exclusive list with a match-winning treble in Saturday evening’s thumping 3-1 success over Newcastle. Ferguson slotted home on the rebound to give Albion a first-half lead before bending home a superb second and then claiming the match ball with a deflected finish five minutes later. Seagulls boss De Zerbi feels the Republic of Ireland international offers far more than just a threat in front of goal and has potential to rival the game’s elite marksmen. “His improvement is important for him, for us, for his career because he’s working to complete his qualities, not only score, because he can become big, big, big,” said the Italian coach. “His qualities are enough to become a great player, one of the top scorers in Europe. “He’s (born in) 2004. I don’t know how many young players like Evan they score these goals in their careers.” Ferguson, who made his professional debut for Irish club Bohemians aged just 14, now has 10 top-flight goals in just 12 starts following a standout display at the Amex Stadium. His heroics capped a memorable week for Brighton in which they were drawn to face Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens in their maiden Europa League campaign and signed Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona. With the summer transfer window closing on Friday, the Seagulls are not in imminent danger of Ferguson being poached by a bigger club. Yet De Zerbi has no concerns about that eventually happening. “It’s normal for Brighton to sell players,” he said. “The most important thing for Brighton is not to keep the most important players but to find their replacement. This is the right work we have to do. “About Ferguson, I’m really delighted today but not for the goals. “OK, with his goals we can be happy now because we won the game but I’m really pleased for the performance, especially in the first half. “He played very well, he found the right position between the lines. Newcastle defended 4-4-1-1 and with 4-4 there is the open space to receive the ball for the striker. “He understood very well that position.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Mathys Tel helps Bayern Munich come back and win at Borussia Monchengladbach Jack Draper silences New York crowd with four-set win over American Michael Mmoh Marco Silva says it should be ‘impossible’ to allow controversial Man City goal

Miley Cyrus fans are just discovering what her birth name was before she changed it
Miley Cyrus is a household name around the world as a pop star, but some people are just finding out that the singer had a completely different name when she was born. In a resurfaced clip from Entertainment Tonight (ET) back in 2008, the then 16-year-old mentioned how just changed her name and gave her thoughts on her original birth name too - and let's just say she wasn't a fan of it. "You've officially, legally changed your name, to what?" the reporter asked. "To Miley. What I've always been called, yeah," Cyrus replied. When asked if she had a middle name, Cyrus shared that it is Ray "just like her dad," Billy Ray Cyrus. The musician then didn't hold back her feelings about her previous birth name "Destiny Hope Cyrus," as she made a vomiting gesture, prompting laughter from the reporter. "Never again, it doesn't technically legally count!" she commented in jest. Meanwhile, in another old clip, Miley appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with her father who revealed the reason behind Miley's birth name and the nickname she's now known as. "Before she was born you know I had this vision that her name should be - this is going to be long," he informed his daughter who didn't appear thrilled at the story. @unholyloz Replying to @L A Y the story behind mileys name is so precious ? #mileycyrus #miley #cyrus #fyp #viral #destinyhopecyrus "Destiny Hope Cyrus is her real name but from the time she was born she just smiled all the time, we started calling her Smiley and that evolved into Miley. Putin pardons two cannibals who joined Russia’s war in Ukraine – report
Vladimir Putin has reportedly pardoned two Russian men convicted of cannibalism after they deployed to the frontline in the war with Ukraine. One of the men, Denis Gorin, was recruited into a private military company after signing a contract with the Russian ministry of defence but is known to have been convicted thrice for murdering at least four people between 2003 and 2022. He was also convicted of eating the remains of his victims along with his brother, reported Sibir Realii, a news outlet aligned with Radio Free Europe. He is the 17th person convicted for murder to be pardoned by the Russian president between 2022 and 2023. “At the trial, he (Gorin) admitted that they ate the murdered man who was their acquaintance,” said his neighbour Dmitry Vladimirovich. Investigators found out that Gorin first killed his victim and then washed and refrigerated the remains. After his last conviction in 2018, Gorin was sentenced to 22 years in prison but was pardoned in 2023 by the Russian president. The neighbour added that Gorin was now free and admitted to a military hospital in the eastern Russian city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk due to a moderate injury. “He’s basically free, pardoned, and half his [prison] sentence has been wiped out. But I don’t think he’ll stay free for long. His victims’ relatives remember everything," the neighbour said, adding that he feared Gorin might start killing again. According to a new photo on Gorin’s social media profile on Odnoklassniki – a Russian platform – from a month ago, he is seen wearing a military uniform with the letter Z emblazoned on the sleeve, a pro-war symbol for conflicts in Ukraine and abroad widely used in Russia. Another man, Nikolai Ogolobyak, was convicted of ritual murders, according to the Russian media reports. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2019 for murdering four teenagers and then consuming their remains. The 33-year-old man was reportedly pardoned this week by the Russian president for fighting in the invasion of Ukraine. Russia has regularly released and pardoned hardened criminals convicted for rapes, murders and other serious crimes to replenish its military personnel reserves fighting in Ukraine. Prominent PMC Wagner also released hundreds of convicts who joined its military operations in eastern Ukraine.
