'Scrooging' is the horrible new dating trend to look out for
'Scrooging' is the horrible new dating trend to look out for
The festive season might seem like to perfect opportunity to get snuggly with a significant other, but daters have been urged to look out for a toxic dating trend called “Scrooging” that could end in heartbreak. Modern dating is full of potential hurdles and pitfalls, as new dating trends like “phubbing” and the “penny dating method” come along. The latest trend that could make a budding relationship end in disaster is Scrooging and it is specifically linked to Christmas. Scrooging happens when a person dumps their partner right before Christmas to get out of buying them a present. Unsurprisingly, the name of the toxic trend gets its name from Ebenezer Scrooge – the grumpy character from Charles Dickens’ 1843 book A Christmas Carol – who hates Christmas. According to experts, people who are willing to dump someone over a gift may have other red flag traits that are best avoided. Times Now suggests Scroogers may do it because they don’t see anything long-term with their partner and therefore are unwilling to spend money on them. They may also display other selfish traits such as not wanting to meet their partner’s friends and family and being self-centred and unwilling to invest quality time. Scrooging may also be used as an excuse to start over in the New Year with a new partner that they are perhaps more interested in pursuing. So, in the lead-up to Christmas, if Scrooging is a concern in your relationship, it might be a good idea to pay closer notice to your partner’s attention levels to see if they are becoming distant. But, as is the case in all relationships, communication is key – if you suspect you’re about to get dumped at Christmas, communicate with them to see where you stand as a couple. Influencer Morgan Osman becomes the new Tiffany Gomas with 'Instagram famous' plane rant
Influencer Morgan Osman becomes the new Tiffany Gomas with 'Instagram famous' plane rant
An influencer has been publicly shamed for boasting about her dubious celebrity status during a furious rant. Morgan Osman, 35, from Miami Florida, was filmed in the midst of a heated exchange with fellow passengers on board an American Airlines flight when she touted her “star” credentials. The video shows Osman pulling a suitcase from an overhead locker as she tells a man off-camera “Call me a b***h again.” “I did nothing wrong,” she then argues before telling the man and “[his] b***h” to “shut the f**k up”. Walking down the aisle, she spots the flyer who’s recording her and fumes sarcastically: “Film me, I’m Instagram famous, you f**king bum.” Her behaviour was met with mocking laughs from onlookers and ridicule on social media after the video was uploaded to Reddit and Twitter/X. Viewers were quick to point out that they’d never heard of the fashionista who has some 967,000 Insta followers. However, at the time of writing, her account on the platform was “no longer available”. “Lmfao at Instagram famous,” one Twitter/X user wrote. “I’m going to start telling people I’m Monopoly rich.” “What’s great about this new plane lady discourse is that she says ‘STFU, I’m Instagram famous” while in Economy,” another pointed out. “Instagram isn’t Real Life. Oops.” The 35-year-old is perhaps best known for appearing on season 5 of the US reality TV show The Bad Girls Club. But, according to one fan site, she was swiftly booted off early on in the series for breaking into the producer’s room. She also caused a stir for claiming to have secretly dated Britney Spears’s now-ex-husband Sam Asghari shortly after they began their relationship in 2017. Osman shared and quickly deleted a photo showing her locking lips with a man who resembled Asghari and said he was “using Britney”, the New York Post reports. It’s not clear what prompted her viral plane altercation but it’s not the first time an American Airlines passenger has made headlines for jaw-dropping behaviour. A woman who was later identified as Tiffany Gomas shot to internet notoriety for a bizarre outburst in which she uttered the now immortal words “that motherf**ker is not real.” The 38-year-old marketing executive subsequently addressed her actions in a video statement, admitting that they were “completely unacceptable”. However, she has also urged viewers to appreciate that “we all have our bad moments” and has since rebranded herself as a motivational mental health guru. We’re all now waiting to see how Osman will respond now that she really is Instagram – and internet famous. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville no longer owns property in the state he represents, report says
Alabama Republican SenatorTommy Tuberville no longer possesses any property in the state he represents, according to a report. The Washington Post reported that the lawmaker has sold the last of his properties in Alabama – Tiger Farms LLC, which sits in Macon and Tallapoosa counties just outside of Auburn – for just over $1m. Property records show that he has owned a $3m home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, for around 20 years. He also owns a condo in Washington that he and his wife purchased for $750,000 in 2021. The former Auburn University head coach recently sold one Florida condo for $850,000 and bought another for $825,000, the Post reported. The Independent has reached out to Mr Tuberville’s office for comment. Mr Tuberville’s office maintained to the Post that the senator’s primary residence is a home in Auburn. “Coach has purchased and invested in real estate for decades,” Mr Tuberville’s communications director told the outlet. “Coach has owned the property in Santa Rosa Beach for two decades – he bought it while he was coaching at Auburn. He goes there upon occasion if he has a free weekend. It is within driving distance of Auburn. I’m sure many senators have vacation homes.” The spokesperson said that the senator purchased his current Auburn residence for his son when his son was a student at Auburn. “After his son graduated, he moved out. After Coach retired from coaching, Coach moved into the Auburn house.” Despite this claim, the Tubervilles actually bought the house nine months after his son Tucker graduated from Auburn University in 2016, according to his LinkedIn profile. When Mr Tuberville served as the head coach of University of Cincinnati’s football team from 2013 through 2016, Tucker then worked for his father at the school from May through December 2016 after he graduated. Tuberville’s other son, Troy, did not start at Auburn until 2018 and graduated in 2021. After being presented with these details, Mr Tuberville’s communications director backtracked and told the Post that the house was purchased after Tucker graduated from college: “His son lived at the Auburn house briefly and then Coach moved there afterward.” “The Auburn property is his primary residence — although his job requires him to be in Washington four days a week when the Senate is in session,” the communications director added. Under the US constitution, a senator must live in the state they are elected to serve. “No Person shall be a Senator…who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen,” it states. Mr Tuberville isn’t the only member of Congress to face questions around their residency. Arizona Democratic Rep Ruben Gallego was under fire earlier this year after Politico exposed that he claimed both his DC property and his Arizona property as his primary residence. Similarly, Rep Ryan Zinke, the former Trump administration interior secretary, fell under scrutiny when he ran for congress in Montana in 2022 and his wife put her primary residence as California.
