Kyle Walker has revealed he was “close” to joining Bayern Munich in the summer but is now set to sign a new contract at Manchester City. The City right-back was the subject of strong interest from the German giants during the close season and, coupled with uncertainty over his future at the Etihad Stadium, he admits he was seriously tempted. The 33-year-old had a spell out of favour last spring and, although he regained his place towards the end of the treble-winning campaign, was left out of the starting line-up for the Champions League final in June. As he entered the final year of his contract, Bayern turned his head with an attractive package but, with City later offering what is understood to be a two-year extension, Walker opted to stay put. “It was close but in football things can happen,” Walker said. “Decisions can be made, things can turn. It wasn’t meant to be. “Would I have enjoyed the experience? Of course I would, but this is a great club and you can’t underestimate what this club has done in the last six or seven years. “Why should I walk away if I am going to get enough game time that’s right for me? That is all I want. “It was about who gave me the most years. It wasn’t like I was going to a worse club because Bayern Munich is a massive club and seeing what Harry (Kane) is doing there and will do, it wasn’t a step down. I have a contract with the club and I will play for the club until the contract (ends) or they sell me Kyle Walker “In the back of my head I always wanted to play for Manchester City but I had to do what was right for me and my future. It was just about which club gave me the years in my contract to play football at the highest level.” The speculation linking Walker with Bayern was at its most intense in July, just as City played the Bundesliga club during a pre-season friendly in July. To some surprise at the time, Walker not only started for City but took the captain’s armband. He said: “I am a Manchester city player. I am contracted to them so what do you want me to do? Turn round and say ‘I am not playing because I want to force a move to Bayern Munich’? “That is not me as a person. I have a contract with the club and I will play for the club until the contract (ends) or they sell me – and I wasn’t sold.” Walker, who joined City from Tottenham in 2017, says confirmation of the new deal which would commit him to the reigning Premier League champions was imminent. “The extension is coming,” said Walker, who has five title-winner’s medals. “It’s my seventh season here and I feel like one of the old ones. “I love the place. I’ve experienced things I only dreamt of here – especially the last season – so why would you want to leave a club like this?” Walker is also keen to take on the City captaincy full-time with manager Pep Guardiola planning to hold a squad vote to identify Ilkay Gundogan’s replacement in the coming weeks. He said: “The vote hasn’t been yet. They like to do it after the transfer window is closed. “It is an honour of privilege, of course I want it. Ukraine has denied direct involvement in a series of early morning drone attacks in Moscow that brought the war to the heart of Russia. Sergei Sobyanin, the capital’s mayor, said that two people were hurt - but not seriously injured - in the strikes. Buildings were also damaged. It was the first time Moscow has been targeted by multiple drone attacks since Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered his illegal invasion of Ukraine on 24 February last year. The strikes came as Russia launched another round of attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, where one person has been killed and four injured by falling debris. Where did the strike attacks take place? Residents in Moscow - which is about 530km from the most northwesterly point in Ukraine, beyond the city of Sumy - reported hearing explosions around 6:24am and 6:58 local time. Some filmed a drone being shot down and a plume of smoke rising over the Moscow skyline. Early media reports said that as many as 30 drones had been involved in the attack - Russia’s defence ministry said it shot down eight. RBC reported that three buildings had been hit by the drones: two near southern Moscow’s Leninsky Prospekt, and a third in the town of Moskovskiy, close to Vnukovo Airport. The areas are known to be some of the more wealthy neighborhoods in the Russian capital. A senior Russian lawmaker said three of the drones had been downed over the capital’s exclusive Rublyovka suburb, which is home to Russia’s political and business elite and where Mr Putin has an official residence. Where did the drones come from? Drones, remote-controlled or preprogrammed, have been used extensively in battle to gather intelligence, direct artillery strikes and, to a lesser extent, drop explosives. It remained unclear on Tuesday afternoon where exactly the drones used in the attack on Moscow had been launched from. There are many different types of drones and Ukraine has several at its disposal, including the Turkish Bayraktar TB2, which has been used by Kyiv’s troops on Russian targets. Ukraine also has Switchblade drones, Phoenix Ghost drones and DJI Mavic 3 drones. According to the Military Today website, the TB2 has a range of up 300km (186m). The Switchblade drones have a range of over 40km (24m) and the Phoenix Ghost has a similar range. The DJI Mavic 3 drone have a range of around 15km. Was it the first drone attack on Russia since the invasion? There have been sporadic drone attacks on targets in Russia since February last year, although those on Tuesday morning were the first multiple strikes aimed at the capital. Earlier this month an oil storage depot in Russia exploded after coming under attack from a drone. A tank containing tons of fuel burst into flames at a port near Volna village on the Black Sea, close to a key bridge linking Russia to the annexed Crimea peninsula, on 3 May. Ukraine also denied direct responsibility for that strike. What has Russia said? Russia’s defence ministry blamed Ukraine for what it called a "terrorist" attack and claimed it had shot down all of the drones. The defence ministry said that eight drones had attacked the Russian capital. Baza, a Telegram channel with links to the security services, said that more than 25 drones were involved. Later on Tuesday Russia’s foreign ministry Tuesday said it reserved the right to take the most "severe measures" in response to a drone attack on the capital Moscow earlier in the day. "Assurances by NATO officials that the Kyiv regime will not launch strikes deep into Russian territory prove to be completely hypocritical," the ministry said in a statement. "Russia reserves the right to take the harshest possible measures in response to the terrorist attacks by the Kyiv regime," it added. What has Ukraine said? Ukrainian presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak said that Kyiv was watching the strike "with enjoyment" and predicted more such attacks, even as he denied Ukraine’s involvement. Ordering supermarket groceries via delivery apps such as Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats could cost twice the price of buying directly from the same store, according to Which? Meanwhile, Amazon is charging up to 45 per cent more for Morrisons products than if they were bought from the supermarket’s own website, the consumer group found. Which? acknowledged that ordering groceries from Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats is “undeniably convenient” and could be received in as little as 30 minutes, but warned it found “shocking” price differences across a range of products in its snapshot investigation. It compared the price of a basket of 15 popular grocery items at five major supermarkets against the cost of ordering the same basket from the same supermarket to the same postcode via a delivery app, not including delivery fees. Almost all of the items were either more expensive on the delivery apps or the same price. Ordering groceries from Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats is undeniably appealing but the cost of this convenience could be double what you'd pay if you cut out the middleman Ele Clark, Which? Which? also found that customers would pay on average 8 per cent more for Morrisons groceries via Amazon than by ordering directly from the supermarket. In one case, a 250g pack of Country Life unsalted butter cost 45 per cent more on Amazon. The rapid delivery apps also charged a premium of as much as 106 per cent in one instance. The Which? basket, which included branded goods such as Doritos crisps alongside own-label milk and ready meals, would have cost £36.63 from Iceland, but getting the same items delivered from the same Iceland store by Just Eat would have cost £50.50, not including delivery fees – a 38 per cent premium. In some individual price differences, own-brand Fairtrade bananas cost 85p at Sainsbury’s and £1.75 on the three apps, Warburtons Toastie Thick Sliced White Bread cost £1 on Iceland’s website but £2 on Just Eat and Uber Eats, while Hovis Best of Both Medium Bread cost £1.19 on the Morrisons website but £2.05 from Uber Eats. Other examples included Asda own-brand Pinot Grigio costing £7 on the supermarket’s website and £9.10 on all three apps. Which? retail spokeswoman Ele Clark said: “Ordering groceries from Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats is undeniably appealing but the cost of this convenience could be double what you’d pay if you cut out the middleman. “As well as the extra cost on your groceries, you’ll probably have a delivery fee too, so it’s worth weighing this up before ordering anything to your door.” Customers who choose to order groceries via apps like ours do so because of the convenience, speed and choice on offer from rapid delivery Uber Eats A Deliveroo spokeswoman said: “The prices for grocery items available on the Deliveroo platform are set by our grocery partners. “Deliveroo always seeks to deliver great choice, availability and value for money to our customers, and we have agreed price-matching with our grocery partners including Morrisons, Co-op, Asda and more across hundreds of items.” An Uber Eats spokeswoman said: “Everyone who partners with Uber Eats sets their own prices and we always encourage them to match the prices offered in-store. “Customers who choose to order groceries via apps like ours do so because of the convenience, speed and choice on offer from rapid delivery.” A Just Eat spokeswoman said: “At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience when ordering from our platform. We work with more than 75,000 partners across the UK, giving our millions of customers access to choice and convenience through a variety of local takeaway options, restaurant brands and grocery stores. “As independent businesses, any restaurant or grocer using Just Eat are in control of their menus and set the prices they charge. We continue to work closely with our partners to bring value to our customers.” Amazon said that all prices of products sold through the ‘Morrisons on Amazon’ service were set by Morrisons, and added that being able to shop for Morrisons groceries on Amazon offered customers fast delivery options and value.
