Dallas Cowboys wide receiver makes same mistake twice, arrested in south Florida

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Antonio Callaway was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

University of Florida's own Antonio Callaway was arrested in the sunshine state on Saturday due to an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license. If that sounds familiar, it's because Callaway was arrested for the same offense and then some back in 2018.

The only difference this time, however, was that Callaway wasn't booked for possession of marijuana.

It's been a tough go of it in the NFL for Callaway, as he's spent most of his career suspended or in the news for the wrong reasons. During his rookie season, Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. In 2019, he was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Callaway was later suspended for the final seven games of that campaign, and the first three games in 2020. He hasn't appeared in NFL action since then.

How Antonio Callaway's arrest impacts the Cowboys

Dallas signed Callaway to a futures deal in 2022 and he's on the team's practice squad. His best season was his rookie year with the Cleveland Browns, when he caught 43 passes for 586 yards and five touchdowns. With Dallas, he hasn't received much of an opportunity to get consistent playing time, and any off-field drama surely won't help matters.

The Cowboys receiving corps includes the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Brandin Cooks, Simi Fehoko, Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, Jalen Brooks, Dontario Drummond, Dennis Houston and then Callaway. The former Gator is listed as the fourth-string WR1, per ESPN.

Callaway's arrest shouldn't have a major impact on Dallas, though it could be very costly for the player himself. Hopefully the two sides can work things out so Callaway can focus on himself and football.
