Clippers shedding biggest weakness trading for Malcolm Brogdon

The Los Angeles Clippers are addressing one of the roster's biggest weakness in the three-team trade that brings Malcolm Brogdon to LA.

The Los Angeles Clippers got involved in the Kristaps Porzingis trade to make it a three-team deal between LA, Washington and Boston. In return, the Clippers landed point guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Celtics.

The Clippers are heading into what might be their final summer with their current core of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Both players have player options next summer and could be looking to spilt.

Los Angeles has always struggled to have a secondary creator since building this duo as the core of the roster, though. Yes, they have had players who could get a bucket, but they have never had players who could create for others as well.

Brogdon now changes that math immediately.

Los Angeles Clippers: What does Malcolm Brogdon addition mean?

As mentioned, the Clippers needed a point guard who can create for teammates. Malcolm Brogdon can do that. Yes, he's injury-prone at this point in his career, but he is an improvement for this squad in a major way when on the floor.

Even better, to acquire Brogdon, LA only gave up arguably their worst 3-and-D wing in Marcus Morris, a type of player that they have plenty of still on the roster. Amir Coffey was also dealt and the prospect may have potential down the line, but the minutes available to him with the Clippers were going to be limited.

Of course, the Clippers also gave up the 30th overall pick in the trade too. However, an end-of-the-first-round propsect would not have had playing time available either. The pick was basically a low-floor gamble for LA that they didn't have much use for outside of this. Now, they've filled a major need and could potentially have the best chance to maximize their potential with Leonard and George.
