Chiefs Rumors: Travis Kelce opens up on Taylor Swift situationship
By now we all know that Taylor Swift attended the Kansas City Chiefs game last Sunday against the Chicago Bears, sitting in Travis Kelce's suite with his family and friends. Kelce shot his shot with Swift, and it paid off, thus introducting a whole new set of fans to the NFL in the process.
On his podcast with brother Jason Kelce, Travis opened up on his relationship with the pop artist, stating that he was honored she would attend in the first place.
"I just thought it was awesome how everybody in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her - you know, the friends and family. She looked amazing," Kelce said. "Everybody was talking about her in great light. And on top of that, the day went perfect for Chiefs fans, of course. We script it all, ladies and gentlemen. To see the slow-motion chest bumps, to see the high-fives with mom, to see how Chiefs Kingdom was all excited that she was there. That s--- was hysterical. It was definitely a game I'll remember, that's for damn sure."
For now, it's unclear exactly what these two kids are up to. Kelce attended one of Swift's concerts, and made it very clear that he was interested in knowing her a little better. Swift went to one of Kelce's games, cheering him on the entire time. Outside of that, all I have to go off of are rumors, and perhaps it's best that way.
Chiefs Rumors: Kansas City adds another wideout
As if Patrick Mahomes didn't have enough weapons at his disposal, the Chiefs signed another young wide receiver to their practice squad in former Oregon Ducks speedster Chase Cota. This isn't Cota's first NFL experience, as he spent training camp with the Detroit Lions.
It's unclear exactly what role Cota will have with the Chiefs, though with the injury to Richie James, who was placed in injured reserve this week, perhaps the Oregon product will fill in as a return specialist, if anything.
Cota has experience returning kicks and punts from his college days, and the Lions viewed him as a prospect in that light as well. Montrell Washington was elevated to the active roster to replace James, so he will get the first opportunity on game days. The Chiefs play the New York Jets this weekend on Sunday Night Football.
Kansas City's fanbase has liked what they have seen from Washington in limited spurts. If for some reason he cannot cut it as the regular return man, that's where Cota may come into play. Andy Reid likes what he sees from the wide receiver room so far despite some outside noise suggesting the opposite. There are a lot of younger receivers on the Chiefs roster, and Reid expects them to come along by the end of the season.
"I liked what I saw. There are some things we've got to correct on all of them, but there were some good things," Reid said during his Monday presser. "I like the way (Rashee) Rice is coming along, so I mean he's catching the ball well, he's getting up the field. He had the one at the end, that was on him, the interception at the end. But for the most part here, he's doing a nice job. When he has the ball in his hands, he's strong and knows how to get up the field quickly, so that's a real positive and I think Pat (Mahomes) has a lot of trust in him. You can see the development."
That development, or lack thereof, could determine whether or not Cota sticks on the practice squad long term.
Chiefs Rumors: Are Jawaan Taylor penalties fair?
Jawaan Taylor received plenty of attention Week 1 against the Lions for lining up behind the line of scrimmage. It appeared, at least to the naked eye, that Taylor got a head start on several plays when protecting Patrick Mahomes. Since then, he's been a frequent target by NFL officials. Dean Blandino, former NFL officiating executive, had plenty to say about the attention Taylor is receiving.
"After opening night, Lions vs. Chiefs, I really thought we would be done talking about tackles getting lined up on the line of scrimmage. And specifically Jawaan Taylor from the Chiefs. But now we're through three weeks, and we're still talking about Taylor." said Blandino, "Week One doesn't get called; we get a lot of attention on whether he was on the line of scrimmage. Look, he wasn't, but there are a lot of tackles that aren't on the line of scrimmage. And it's up to the officials again to warn and then after the warning to flag so that the tackles can correct the issue."
At this point, it seems as though officiating crews are targeting Taylor and hoping offensive linemen take note. One would hope that the attention Taylor is specifically receiving wears off in the next few weeks, as he's actually done a really solid job protecting Mahomes and following the rules since that infamous Chiefs defeat.
