LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Channing Tatum’s career trajectory has been impressive, with him often labeled a heartthrob. Most recently, Tatum appeared in ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ which sent fans into a frenzy, given the hype surrounding the sexy and seductive franchise. Although, a lesser-known fact about the franchise's final movie is that it was originally set to premiere on HBO Max, but took a different route and got the big screen treatment!
Turns out, Tatum himself has some very strong feelings about the streaming industry, and the impact it has had on storytelling over the years. He wouldn’t be the first person to have these concerns in regard to big streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu amongst several others. Could Tatum be right about his thoughts on the streaming industry?
‘It’s a different era now’
Tatum sat down with Forbes for an interesting conversation about his life as a father, however, the highlight of this interview remained his thoughts on Hollywood and the changing times. Tatum says, “The movie industry is just changing so much. It’s a different era now and it’s just getting crazier with the streamers. I do fear a little for the storytelling of it all. I think there will be less good storytelling and a lot more product out there," as per the outlet. The ‘Magic Mike’ star believes that movies aren’t being made just because they have to be made, but rather, you have to know that you have about an 80% chance of making your money back.
In fact, when asked if he would ever fight against the new Hollywood, Tatum responds, “Every day. Every single day. It’s just a learning process every day. We have the writer strike right now. We’re probably going to have the actor and director strikes, maybe. Things will always be changing and that is the only thing that is constant.” There’s no doubt that Tatum feels strongly about how Hollywood has changed its way. Could he possibly lead an actors’ strike in the future?
Tatum reveals 'Magic Mike XXL' budget
In the same conversation with Forbes, Tatum also took the liberty to talk about ‘Magic Mike XXL’ a film that garnered a lot of attention, especially from the man himself. Tatum reveals that ‘Magic Mike XXL’ was made with only $12 million, however, it took them close to $70 million to actually sell the movie, chalking up the total budget to somewhere around $80 million. He adds to this budget breakdown by saying, “We’re spending exponentially more money to sell a movie than actually make the thing for you. That should be the other way around. We could be spending the money on the thing that the viewer is actually going to get to see.” By the looks of it, Tatum might be making some waves when it comes to changing things in Hollywood!
