NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jay-Z has addressed the big question about coming out with new music as he continues to remain on an unofficial hiatus from music.
The rapper was asked the question during his recent interview with 'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King.
While Jay-Z has confirmed that retirement is no longer in the books for him, he has certain expectations from any new music that he sets out to make.
Jay-Z wants new music to 'mean something'
King asked Jay-Z when and on what conditions he planned to return to the studio.
"When you sit here, you know, the one question everybody has is: Is there a part of you that thinks, 'It's time for me to get back in the studio,' or you're in no rush to do that? Are you waiting until the time is right for you?"
The CBS host then also added, "Because we can't use the word retirement for you."
"Yeah, yeah yeah. No, I already did that. I can't do that again," Jay-Z confirmed.
"I'll say I want to make music, but it has to be something important," the rapper continued.
"I don't want to make just a bunch of tunes. That's not going to serve me and it won't feed me, first of all," he added.
"What does feed you? What feeds you?" questioned King.
"I have to be saying something important," Jay-Z reiterated, "It has to mean something. You know, it has to mean something to a larger society."
He continued, "Like 4:44, for example. It was a personal story. But, the amount of vulnerability in there allowed for a lot of people to explore the space."
Fans 'patiently waiting' for new Jay-Z music
Many fans of the rapper reacted to his ideas for what he intends to do with his music.

"Whenever Jay-Z has dropped an album, it’s always been an event to me!" another comment read.
"He’ll have something important to say! I’m sure at some point, Jay will release new music! I’m patiently awaiting for when it does happen!" a fan said.

Another fan agreed with Jay-Z as they wrote, "That’s why he’s the greatest it must be important."
