Braves: Marcell Ozuna provides update on scary injury after HBP

Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna provided an update on his right wrist after he was hit by a pitch in Monday's game vs. the Detroit Tigers.

The Atlanta Braves have the second-best record in the National League as of Tuesday, but they have to fend off the Miami Marlins, who are less than a handful of games behind them for first place in the NL East. On Monday night, the team suffered an injury scare to Marcell Ozuna, who had come along since May after a rough first month to the season.

Facing the Detroit Tigers, Ozuna was hit in the right wrist by a pitch thrown by Garrett Hill. While he remained in the game initially, he was removed one inning later. The team announced that Ozuna had been removed from the game due to a right wrist contusion. Not only that, but X-rays came back negative.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Ozuna revealed that all of his tests came back negative and that he is day-to-day. Not only that, but he said that after not being able to grip, he could do so now.

Braves: Marcell Ozuna reveals all tests on his right wrist came back negative

This is certainly great news for the Braves that Ozuna is not dealing with a significant wrist injury. In that same division, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso suffered a sprain on his right wrist after getting hit by a pitch, and he's expected to be out for a month.

Ozuna had a rough April, as he carried a .091 batting average, a .206 on-base percentage, and a .218 slugging percentage through 17 games played. But then in May, he broke out of his slump facing the Miami Marlins, and he carried that momentum from there on out. Through 24 games, he slashed .297/.360/.626 while recording nine home runs, 20 RBI, and 27 hits.

On the year, Ozuna recorded a .246 batting average, a .828 OPS, 13 home runs, 26 runs scored, 29 RBI, and 44 hits.

The Braves will be without Ozuna, albeit seemingly briefly, as he avoided a potentially serious injury.
