BALTIMORE, MARYLAND: Son of former Bears coach Todd Bozeman and former Morgan State basketball player Blake Bozeman reportedly lost his life to gun violence at a bar in Washington, DC, reports CBS News.

Bozeman and three other persons were shot at roughly 11:50 pm on Saturday, September 23 at Cru Lounge in the 1300 block of H Street Northeast in Washington, DC.

According to the police, the 31-year-old former D1 HBCU hooper was transferred to the hospital where he died.

Where was Blake Bozeman born?

Bozeman, a father of three, grew up in Bowie but resided in Southeast, D.C. He started as a student-athlete for the Morgan State University basketball team, where he competed for his father, a long-time coach.

According to a university release, Blake concluded his playing career ranked second on the school's all-time minutes leaderboard, fourth in games played, and third in three-pointers made. He graduated with a 7.4 point-per-game average, 2.2 rebounds, and two assists, per WUSA 9.

What was Blake Bozeman best known for?

Bozeman, a "fearless entrepreneur and successful man" was "productive both on the court, in the classroom and took pride in helping out in the community as well," per a university rep.

Blake was chosen for the 2015 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, according to the institution, for his "significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service."

According to the university, he coordinated programs for people with mental disabilities and volunteered in Special Olympics competitions. He earned an MA in Journalism and a BS in marketing from MSU.

"The Morgan family extends our deepest condolences and prayers to the Bozeman family and friends," Morgan State University stated. "Our family was an extension of his and he was a shining example of what it means to be a student-athlete," per CBS News.

Norfolk State University men's basketball coach Robert Jones reacted on X, "This senseless gun violence gotta stop! Another young man lost."

He added, "RIP Blake Bozeman and condolences to Coach Todd Bozeman. Damnit! Fierce competitor like his dad on that court and we had many battles! This has to stop !"

Bozeman has three children, aged nine, three, and one, according to Victoria Read, a family friend who added that the late father had recently married in May.

Are there any suspects in the death of Blake Bozeman?

Morgan State University reported to WJZ that the man who was fatally wounded was Bozeman, 31. Two men and one woman were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A suspect has been identified as a Black male, roughly 5 ft 7 in (170.18 cm 1.7 m) tall, donning a white or cream sweater and a black hat.

A $25,000 prize has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
