TEXAS: Netflix's spin-off of the tumultuous 'The Ultimatum' series is already delivering on all fronts. With an LGBTQ+ ensemble of five couples made up of women and non-binary people, 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' delves into the difficult dynamic of partners being in completely different minds about where the relationship is headed. For lovers, Raelyn “Rae” Cheung-Sutton (she/her) and Lexi Goldberg (she/her), the viewer-dubbed 'villain' Vanessa Papa has complicated an already fragile relationship. Are Lexi and Rae still together, or did the show bring their relationship to a swift end?
Netflix's 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' delves into the genuine nuances of romance, relationships, and queer rights. After all, it centers around a group of LGBTQ+ couples as they seek to negotiate the fork in the road that has led to one partner announcing an ultimatum. Lexi and Rae were among them, so if you'd want to discover more about them, we've got the information you're looking for.
Lexi and Rae’s journey on 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love'
Even after more than three years of dating, Lexi and Rae from 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' weren't on the same page regarding marriage. Lexi gave Rae the ultimatum on the Netflix reality show in a last-ditch attempt to rescue their relationship. "I was part of this because my relationship was at a standstill, and I didn’t know what to do," Lexi explained to Bustle about why she joined the show. "I really truly think that I put my heart on the line in this experience. I feel like every day was so emotionally charged and so heart-heavy because I cared."
They'd dealt with everything from Rae and Vanessa Papa having sex to Lexi not feeling like a priority in the relationship by Episode 8. "I think forever is hard for me," Rae said to Lexi on their "last date night as girlfriends" in 'The Ultimatum's 8th episode. "This is a big commitment. It’s a weird situation. It is the ultimatum. Like I feel back against the wall, and it’s either making a decision or losing you. But there’s like so many factors that kind of get in the way or, like, block me or make me second-guess things."
Though fans will have to wait and see if Lexi and Rae get engaged on 'The Ultimatum,' they've left plenty of hints that they departed the program together.
Rae disclosed Lexi pressured her to join 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love'
Rae may have accepted to chance to star in 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' season 1 alongside her partner Lexi, but she is now making it clear that joining the Netflix reality TV program was not her idea or really her choice.
Rae blamed Lexi for her appearance on 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Season 1 in an Instagram Story, that was later uploaded by Reddit user Minniful, who remarked how uncomfortable Rae seems on 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Season 1. "When I tell y’all I did not want to do this or be there," Rae replied cryptically to a fan's query. "Lexi was persistent and really wanted to do the experience," she added, adding that she accepted the show since Lexi did the casting legwork.
Are Lexi and Rae still together?
According to what we can discern, yes — surprise, Lexi and Rae still look like they are together — in fact, it appears that they have recently taken the next steps to permanently settle down. This is evident by the fact that they are both wearing gold rings on their ring fingers in their latest Instagram postings, and they frequently engage with each other through likes and comments.
The all-queer Netflix sequel was shot between September and November 2021, and Rae uploaded a selfie of herself and Lexi outside The White House the following month, commenting, "I guess this counts as a White Christmas."
Lexi and Rae were both in New York City in August 2022, and both uploaded images of themselves on vacation in Hawaii — on the same beach, no less — a month later. Rae went up as Tommy Lee for Halloween 2022, posting on Instagram, "Looking for my Pam Anderson." Lexi's Instagram account states she "was once called our generation's Pam Anderson," which appears to be another clue.
Yoly Rojas, another cast member, may have also accidentally leaked a spoiler. Yoly shared Instagram highlights from spending "72 hours in LA" with Rae and Lexi in January 2023, when the reunion was recorded. But that's where the indicators of them together ended, as Lexi posted an ambiguous remark right before 'The Ultimatum' debuted, stating she hadn't "emotionally dealt with it for a single second."
In any case, Lexi appears to be close to her first trial marriage partner, Mal Wright. Lexi frequently comments on Mal's Instagram postings, referring to her as "my loveeeeee." Mal, for her part, returns the affection by calling her Ultimatum partner a "BADDDDIIIEEEEE," but she also appears to back Rae. "I love you and love watching this journey boo," Mal wrote on one of her co-star's May Instagram postings.
Regardless of where she and Rae are now, Lexi recognizes the significance of being a member of the franchise's first all-queer cast. "I get chills every time someone says it. It means everything," she adds, emphasizing that she's never felt more at ease in her own skin than she does today. "I talk a lot about ‘younger Lexi,’ and I just think she would be so proud of me. After not being able to figure out my sexuality at an earlier age, she would be like, ‘Damn, look at you go.'"
Both women wear gold rings on their ring fingers, which might indicate that they've married or are at least engaged. Only time will tell if Lexi and Rae are able to say, "I do," and to each other.
The final episodes of 'The Ultimatum: Queer Love' Season 1 will be released on June 7, 2023, on Netflix.
